KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute balloon flight operations, making critical flight decisions that ensure the safety and enjoyment of passengers at all times.
  • Supervise pre-flight and post-flight safety procedures, including thorough equipment checks and safety briefings.
  • Assist in maintaining balloons and related aviation equipment, ensuring compliance with all maintenance and airworthiness standards.
  • Ensure the safety of crew, passengers, and equipment, taking weather patterns and terrain into account.
  • Maintain accurate flight logs and records, complying with regulatory requirements and company protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with ground crew and guests, fostering a smooth and professional customer experience.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Pilot, which may include team training, equipment inspections, or special event coordination.
  • Contribute to guest satisfaction by narrating wildlife sightings, natural landscapes, and ballooning facts in a compelling and engaging manner during flights.
  • Uphold company standards for sustainability, operational efficiency, and community engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum Class C Balloon Pilot License, as per Kenyan or internationally recognized aviation authorities.
  • Minimum of 500 hours of hot air balloon flight time, with verifiable experience in piloting large envelopes (minimum 400,000 cubic feet and above).
  • Valid commercial pilot license, compliant with national and international air safety regulations.
  • Relevant certifications in balloon operations, aviation safety, and maintenance protocols.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly under dynamic environmental conditions.
  • Strong situational awareness and the ability to manage passengers in high-stress or unexpected scenarios.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, with fluency in English essential. Proficiency in Kiswahili is a notable advantage.
  • Good physical condition, able to assist with balloon setup and post-landing equipment handling.
  • Experience working in remote or wilderness settings, particularly in safari tourism, is highly preferred.
  • Ability to interact professionally and empathetically with international and local guests, delivering memorable service experiences.
