The digital economy is rapidly evolving — and with it, the legal landscape surrounding data protection. As companies expand across borders and scale their services, the need for robust, intelligent, and forward-looking privacy frameworks is more crucial than ever.

This is why the position of Data Protection Monitoring Associate at Bolt is not just another legal role — it is a unique career-defining opportunity to shape the future of privacy compliance in one of the world’s fastest-growing mobility platforms.

Based in Nairobi, you will join a global team that works at the intersection of law, data ethics, and innovation. This role is perfectly suited for professionals who possess a passion for privacy, a commitment to legal excellence, and a drive to be at the forefront of responsible digital transformation.

If you’re excited by the challenge of embedding privacy into tech-driven ecosystems, aligning legal requirements with practical implementation, and being part of a mission-driven company — then this role was built for you.

ABOUT BOLT

Bolt is Europe’s fastest-growing mobility company. Founded in 2013 in Tallinn, Estonia, Bolt has expanded its operations to over 45 countries and 500 cities globally. With core services spanning ride-hailing, food delivery, grocery logistics, micromobility (scooters and bikes), and car-sharing, Bolt has disrupted traditional transport models by offering sustainable, affordable, and user-focused solutions.

In Africa, Bolt has become a household name, especially in Kenya, where the company continues to revolutionize urban mobility. The company’s strong performance in the Kenyan market is a result of its commitment to user safety, platform integrity, and community-based service design.

Bolt is a data-driven company — and data privacy is embedded in every level of its operations. The legal and compliance teams play a critical role in ensuring that every transaction, data touchpoint, and system is aligned with both global and local data protection laws.

By joining Bolt, you align yourself with a bold vision: building cities for people, not cars, through technology that respects both mobility and privacy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Data Protection Monitoring Associate, you will take ownership of privacy compliance activities across Bolt’s operations in Kenya and assist the global legal and privacy teams in implementing end-to-end data protection frameworks.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Regulatory Monitoring and Analysis
Track changes in data privacy legislation across Kenya, East Africa, and the EU. Analyze implications for the business and proactively advise internal stakeholders on required actions.

  • Compliance Gap Identification and Remediation
Conduct risk-based assessments to identify gaps in compliance. Propose practical remediation strategies that balance legal compliance with business needs.

  • Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
Lead or support the execution of DPIAs for new or existing projects, ensuring that privacy risks are effectively identified and mitigated.

  • Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs)
Maintain up-to-date documentation of all processing activities in accordance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act and other applicable regulations.

  • Responding to Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs)
Oversee the end-to-end management of data subject requests, ensuring lawful, timely, and user-friendly responses.

  • Internal Training and Privacy Awareness
Design, develop, and deliver training programs to enhance privacy literacy across departments including operations, customer support, marketing, and finance.

  • Incident Response Support
Assist in the management and investigation of privacy incidents or data breaches. Coordinate with relevant departments and regulatory authorities where necessary.

  • Privacy Audits and Internal Reviews
Participate in or lead internal audits to assess the implementation of data protection controls and suggest process improvements.

  • Collaboration with Legal and Business Teams
Act as the bridge between legal mandates and operational teams. Provide clear, actionable guidance in cross-functional meetings and project reviews.

  • Policy Development and Documentation
Draft or update internal privacy policies, consent notices, terms of use, and cookie management protocols in collaboration with legal counsel.

  • Acting as a Point of Contact for the Privacy Team
Represent the Privacy Legal Team in Kenya-based operations and support the business in adopting privacy-by-design principles across all initiatives.
