Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) is a leading non-governmental organization (NGO) that promotes human rights, justice, and the rule of law in Africa and beyond. Established to advance legal empowerment, access to justice, and human rights advocacy, AFLA works with key stakeholders, including the International Criminal Court (ICC), to ensure accountability for human rights violations.
AFLA provides legal education, capacity-building programs, and research opportunities to emerging professionals and legal practitioners. The organization also actively engages in policy advocacy, monitoring legal proceedings, and publishing insightful analyses on international justice.
Key Responsibilities of the Legal Intern
- Conduct comprehensive research on human rights violations and international justice cases
- Monitor legal proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other judicial bodies
- Support advocacy initiatives focused on international legal frameworks and justice reform
- Assist in organizing and executing capacity-building programs for legal professionals
- Engage in administrative tasks to support AFLA’s legal and advocacy teams
- Contribute to AFLA’s legal publications, including reports, articles, and case studies
- Assist in managing social media channels to enhance AFLA’s digital outreach
- Support the publication of podcast episodes covering major international justice topics
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Advanced degree in Law, International Relations, or a related field
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory
- Proficiency in French is an added advantage
- Excellent research and writing skills with strong analytical abilities
- Highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
- Independent worker with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team
- Passionate about international justice, human rights, and legal advocacy
- A sense of humor and resilience in a high-paced environment
