KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct medical laboratory tests and experiments, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Analyze biological samples and interpret test results to assist medical professionals in diagnosis and treatment.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with medical safety regulations, laboratory protocols, and ethical standards.
- Record and report test results promptly and accurately for effective patient management.
- Support research, quality control, and diagnostic procedures, assisting in clinical investigations when needed.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring proper storage.
- Stay updated with emerging laboratory technologies and best practices in medical diagnostics.
- Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) programs to enhance laboratory skills and compliance.
- Work closely with ophthalmologists, medical professionals, and laboratory technicians to support patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Professional Certification: Registration with a recognized Kenyan professional body (if applicable).
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of diagnostic techniques, microscopy, biochemical testing, and pathology procedures.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to perform precise laboratory analyses, ensuring results are accurate and reliable.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in recording test findings and interpreting medical data.
- Communication Skills: Ability to convey laboratory findings effectively to medical teams and patients.
- Teamwork: Strong ability to collaborate with fellow lab professionals, doctors, and hospital staff.
- Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with ISO standards and Kenyan medical laboratory regulations.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of experience working as a laboratory technologist in a clinical, research, or hospital setting.
- Prior experience in ophthalmic or medical diagnostics is a strong advantage.
- Hands-on expertise in operating automated laboratory analyzers and handling advanced diagnostic equipment.
