ABOUT WE CAN WORK (WCW)
Our flagship program, We Can Work, seeks to positively impact the lives of over 1 million young women and men with disabilities, helping them gain access to dignified, inclusive, and fulfilling employment. WCW focuses on building skills, networks, and confidence for youth with disabilities through innovative learning platforms such as the WCW Academy.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The We Can Work Program Intern will support the daily operations and coordination of the WCW Academy. This internship offers hands-on experience in program planning, logistics, reporting, and inclusive development practices. Working closely with the WCW Program Officer, the intern will help ensure the effective delivery and documentation of activities aligned with our mission of inclusive economic empowerment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Program Support & Coordination
- Assist in coordinating academy logistics, including setup of venues, preparation of training materials, and ensuring reasonable accommodations for participants with disabilities.
- Support session coordination with trainers, disability inclusion advisors, and implementing partners.
- Help monitor participant attendance, engagement, and feedback during each training track.
- Engage with alumni and stakeholders through follow-up and networking activities.
2. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of program activities, attendance sheets, reimbursement logs, and feedback forms.
- Draft internal reports and progress updates in collaboration with the Program Officer and MERLA team.
- Assist in the collection of testimonials, case studies, and photos (with consent) to highlight stories of change.
3. Monitoring & Evaluation
- Support the collection of pre- and post-assessment data from participants.
- Enter and organize data into a centralized participant database.
- Follow up with participants post-training to understand engagement levels and track progress.
4. Partnership & Communication
- Liaise with training partners, disability inclusion service providers, and guest speakers.
- Coordinate communications with participants, caregivers, and local stakeholders.
- Represent the WCW team in selected events, training sessions, and external meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Final year student or recent graduate in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field.
- Strong interest in disability inclusion, youth empowerment, and community development.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Open to learning new concepts and adaptive to feedback.
- Volunteering or student leadership experience is a plus.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness to travel locally within Nairobi and its surroundings when necessary.
