JOB PURPOSE
As a Waiter or Waitress at Artisan Blend Café, your role will be to provide attentive table service, assist guests with food and beverage selections, manage orders, and ensure an overall smooth and satisfying dining experience for every customer.
You will represent the front-of-house team and work closely with kitchen staff, baristas, and supervisors to coordinate service during breakfast, lunch, and dinner shifts.
This position demands great interpersonal skills, promptness, familiarity with POS systems, menu memorization, and an understanding of how to handle guest feedback professionally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Customer Service & Guest Experience

Greet customers warmly and escort them to tables

Present menus and offer detailed explanations of food, beverage, and special items

Suggest pairings and upsell menu items based on guest preferences

Take accurate orders and communicate effectively with kitchen and bar staff
-
Provide timely refills and attend to all guest needs during their dining experience
-
Handle guest complaints gracefully and escalate issues when necessary
-
Create memorable experiences through polite, professional, and attentive service
2. Order Management & Billing
-
Enter orders correctly into the Point-of-Sale (POS) system
-
Ensure food and beverages are delivered correctly and promptly
-
Handle bills, receive payments (cash, card, mobile money), and issue receipts
-
Track open orders and coordinate table turnover during peak periods
3. Hygiene & Safety Compliance
-
Maintain cleanliness of service areas, tables, and dining utensils
-
Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols as per government and café guidelines
-
Use gloves and sanitize hands regularly
-
Report any accidents or spills and assist in clean-up
4. Team Collaboration & Communication
-
Assist colleagues during rush hours, covering breaks, or special events
-
Communicate clearly with chefs, baristas, and supervisors to coordinate guest orders
-
Participate in team meetings and briefings to review daily goals or service issues
5. Product Knowledge & Menu Mastery
-
Memorize and keep updated on all menu items, including specials and promotions
-
Understand dietary restrictions and allergens to guide guest selections
-
Sample new menu items to offer accurate descriptions and recommendations
6. Additional Duties
-
Reset tables after guest departure for next use
-
Replenish table supplies (sugar, salt, napkins)
-
Report supply shortages or equipment faults to supervisors
-
Participate in pre-opening and closing duties (cleaning, inventory checks, restocking)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
At least 2 years of experience working in a fast-paced restaurant, café, hotel, or food service outlet
-
Proficient in English and Swahili; additional languages are an asset
-
Strong communication, memory, and interpersonal skills
-
Must be well-groomed and presentable
-
Experience with POS systems (Micros, Toast, Square, or similar)
-
Ability to remain calm and efficient during high-pressure service periods
-
Customer-first mindset with problem-solving capabilities
-
Flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends and public holidays
-
Certificate in Food & Beverage Service, Hospitality, or a related course is an added advantage
