KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Solar PV System Installation:
- Install solar panels, inverters, batteries, and supporting solar components according to precise technical specifications.
- Mount solar arrays securely on rooftops, grounds, and structural surfaces using proper anchoring and load-distribution techniques.
- Connect solar PV systems to on-grid or off-grid configurations including battery storage systems, in line with Kenya’s EPRA solar installation standards.
- Conduct system performance tests post-installation to ensure compliance with technical requirements and energy output expectations.
2. Electrical Wiring and Configuration:
- Interpret technical drawings including wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprint layouts.
- Conduct safe and efficient connections between solar modules, inverters, battery management systems, and distribution boards.
- Implement grounding, earthing, and surge protection strategies to reduce electrical hazards and ensure installation longevity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve wiring issues, keeping all electrical work in line with Kenyan electrical codes and best practices.
3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Conduct scheduled maintenance for both residential and commercial solar PV systems including visual inspections and cleaning routines.
- Use diagnostic tools to pinpoint and correct system faults, inverter errors, battery underperformance, or cable degradation.
- Perform component upgrades to extend the lifecycle and optimize the efficiency of existing solar infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and system logs for client review and company archives.
4. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety standards, including the use of PPE and secure scaffolding procedures during rooftop work.
- Ensure compliance with EPRA licensing, environmental regulations, and manufacturer warranties.
- Support junior technicians and apprentices through guidance on safe procedures, proper tool usage, and system testing.
- Report all site incidents and near-misses to supervisors with detailed risk assessments and mitigation recommendations.
5. Project Execution and Client Interface:
- Work alongside engineers, site managers, and electricians to coordinate installations from start to finish.
- Provide client briefings on system operation, shutdown protocols, maintenance routines, and energy-saving practices.
- Offer feedback to internal engineering teams for system design improvements based on field experiences.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and project communication with internal teams and external clients.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Required:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or Solar PV Technology.
- Minimum of 7 years’ hands-on experience in solar PV system installation, maintenance, or electrical wiring.
- EPRA Certification in Solar PV Installation (T1, T2, or T3) – mandatory in line with Kenyan energy regulations.
- Solid grasp of solar inverter configurations, charge controllers, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Demonstrated proficiency in solar panel installation, cable routing, system commissioning, and fault diagnostics.
- Familiarity with Kenyan building codes, safety protocols, and national electrical standards.
Preferred:
- EPRA-licensed Electrician or Certified Solar PV Technician.
- Hands-on experience with hybrid solar systems and off-grid installations involving BESS.
- Working knowledge of solar energy software tools for performance monitoring, system sizing, and real-time diagnostics.
