KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Solar System Commissioning:
- Conduct comprehensive pre-commissioning inspections to validate system installation and compliance with technical specifications.
- Execute functional testing and parameterization of solar components including PV panels, inverters, charge controllers, PCS (Power Conversion Systems), and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Configure and program system monitoring platforms, inverters, and power management tools for optimal performance.
- Utilize supervisory systems like ComAp and Deep Sea to monitor, adjust, and verify system outputs.
- Ensure all system labels and component tags are placed correctly for maintenance and audit readiness.
- Prepare accurate system acceptance reports detailing commissioning processes and performance metrics.
2. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections to identify potential points of failure and perform proactive system upkeep.
- Identify and address issues like inverter failures, module degradation, wiring deterioration, or BESS faults.
- Replace defective components and upgrade outdated modules to increase energy efficiency and system reliability.
- Record maintenance activities and update operational logs for each installation site.
3. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Use diagnostic software and testing tools to isolate and fix electrical, mechanical, or software-related malfunctions.
- Perform electrical tests such as voltage, current flow, and insulation resistance checks to pinpoint issues.
- Apply strong grounding and surge protection principles to protect sensitive components.
- Respond quickly to emergency service calls, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum client satisfaction.
4. Safety, Compliance, and Quality Assurance:
- Adhere to international and Kenyan safety codes, electrical regulations, and solar industry standards.
- Enforce safety measures like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during site operations.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with EPRA licensing requirements and other regulatory mandates.
5. Client Relations and Team Collaboration:
- Interface with project managers, engineers, and installation technicians to align timelines, roles, and deliverables.
- Train junior technicians and field staff on best practices for solar maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Educate clients on system usage, maintenance schedules, and energy-saving strategies.
- Generate and submit reports detailing performance trends, downtime events, and actionable recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Solar PV Technology, or equivalent technical field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in solar PV system commissioning, operations, and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with BESS, inverters, hybrid systems, and advanced diagnostic tools.
- Certification in Solar PV Installation under EPRA regulations (T1, T2, or T3) preferred.
Technical Proficiencies:
- Familiarity with system components including charge controllers, combiner boxes, string inverters, and software interfaces.
- Strong diagnostic abilities using tools such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, and IR thermometers.
- Knowledge of energy meters, SCADA systems, and solar monitoring platforms.
- Skilled in interpreting electrical drawings, schematic layouts, and flow diagrams.
Soft Skills and Competencies:
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills in high-pressure environments.
- Physical stamina to operate in field conditions, rooftops, and under diverse weather.
