KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Operations Officer, your role will involve handling various banking transactions and operational tasks to ensure a seamless customer experience. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Cash Management: Oversee cash replenishment and repatriation for both tellers and vault operations, ensuring security and accuracy in all cash transactions.
  • Transaction Authorization: Approve cash payments, deposits, and withdrawals for account holders, ensuring compliance with banking regulations and fraud prevention measures.
  • Mpesa Transactions: Authorize Mpesa transactions for both retail and super-agent clients, ensuring proper documentation and fraud mitigation.
  • Forex Transactions: Process and handle forex transactions at the branch level, providing accurate exchange rates and assisting clients with international currency conversions.
  • Report Preparation: Compile and submit monthly reports such as the End-Month Forex Report, ensuring all transaction data is accurate and up to date.
  • Clearing Processes: Process inward clearing (EFTs and cheques) for the branch and balance out settlement with the main office, ensuring all transactions are reconciled properly.
  • Bankers Cheques Issuance: Facilitate the issuance of banker’s cheques for clients, following all necessary verification protocols.
  • Cheque Authorization: Approve outward cheques received from clients, confirming account balances and fraud checks.
  • RTGS and SWIFT Payments: Authorize and process Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and SWIFT payments, ensuring timely execution of transactions.
  • Call and Term Deposits: Handle renewal of call and term deposits, including interest payments, ensuring clients receive accurate and timely returns.
  • Customer Visits: Conduct client visits to enhance service delivery and strengthen customer relationships by providing personalized banking solutions.
  • Service Excellence: Deliver outstanding customer service to both walk-in and existing customers by addressing inquiries, resolving complaints, and guiding customers on banking products.
  • Branch Administration: Assist the Assistant Manager with administrative duties, including compliance monitoring and staff supervision, and act as their backup when on leave.
  • Risk Management: Monitor transaction activities to identify and mitigate potential risks, including fraud detection and anti-money laundering measures.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend and implement improvements to operational workflows to enhance efficiency and customer experience.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in banking operations and customer relations.
  • Proven expertise in bank operational procedures, including cash handling, clearing, deposits, and account management.
  • Strong background in customer service, client retention, and cross-selling bank products.
  • Experience in leading a team is a plus.
  • Exposure to banking regulations, risk management, and compliance procedures.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of banking operations, including funds transfers, fixed deposits, and account openings.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in banking software and digital transactions.
  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and ability to handle large financial transactions efficiently.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
  • Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a high-pressure environment.
