Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Section – Vegetables, your primary duties will include:

Crop Management

  • Develop and implement section crop production plans aligned with farm objectives.
  • Monitor crop growth stages and ensure timely planting, weeding, pest control, and harvesting.
  • Collaborate with agronomists to optimize nutrition, irrigation, and disease management for maximum yield and quality.
  • Oversee adherence to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and farm certification standards.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and motivate farm section staff to achieve performance targets.
  • Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to team leaders, ensuring timely progress.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Promote a safe and productive work environment by enforcing health and safety regulations.

Resource Management

  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources, including seeds, fertilizers, and water.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of farm machinery and tools.
  • Monitor inventory levels and liaise with the procurement team for timely replenishment.

Quality Assurance

  • Maintain accurate records of planting, spraying, irrigation, and harvesting activities.
  • Ensure produce meets high quality standards and market requirements.
  • Address quality issues promptly, implementing corrective measures to enhance outcomes.

Reporting

  • Prepare and submit regular reports on crop performance, labor utilization, and section progress.
  • Provide actionable insights to optimize production and efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in farm management or a supervisory role in vegetable production.
  • Proven expertise in crop production, pest and disease management, and irrigation systems.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong ability to manage teams, train staff, and foster a positive work culture.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting.
  • Familiarity with farm management software and modern agricultural technologies (preferred).
