About Tushinde Children’s Trust

Tushinde Children’s Trust is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Kenya in March 2011 and originally founded in the UK in 2010. The organization is dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families in Mathare and Kiambiu, focusing on education, healthcare, and social support. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring that children from marginalized communities can access quality education, medical care, and social services tailored to their specific needs.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Finance Intern, you will be involved in various aspects of financial management, including:

  • Filing & Archiving: Ensure all finance-related documents (MPESA records, bulk procurement documents) are properly archived and easily retrievable.
  • Procurement Support: Assist in sourcing quotations and reinforcing procurement policies to ensure compliance with internal procedures.
  • Finance Folder Management: Maintain and update financial records in Google Drive, ensuring that all allocated duties are properly documented.
  • Monthly Account Closures: Support the finance team in reconciling accounts and assisting in the preparation of monthly reports.
  • Audit Assistance: Provide support during internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • Fixed Asset Management: Assist in the maintenance and updating of the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Reconciliation Tasks: Follow up with staff to provide Uber trip narrations and assist in verifying expense claims.
  • Financial Controls & Procedures: Help implement and maintain internal financial controls to prevent errors and fraud.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Support the finance team in administering financial transactions, verifying payments, and tracking accounts.
  • Requisition Documentation: Ensure all requisitions from staff members are properly documented and compliant with financial procedures.
  • Monthly Checklists: Update monthly finance checklists and provide reports to management.
  • Administrative Support: Perform additional finance-related administrative tasks as needed.
  • Compliance with Financial Policies: Follow Tushinde’s financial policies at all times, maintaining accountability and transparency in handling funds.
  • Participation in Organizational Activities: Attend community events, visit ongoing projects, and actively contribute to organizational growth and efficiency.

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications and skills:

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration with Finance focus).
  • CPA Section 4 / ACCA Training will be an added advantage.
  • Prior experience working in a finance department is desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite (G-Suite).
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
  • Experience working in informal settlements and interacting with vulnerable communities is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and contribute positively to collaborative efforts.
  • Highly adaptable, detail-oriented, and willing to take initiative.
  • Passionate about child rights and social development.
