Key Responsibilities of the Branch Manager Role
1. Business Growth and Branch Profitability (60%)
- Implement strategic initiatives and branch execution plans aligned with Absa’s growth strategy.
- Monitor branch performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Manage branch portfolio risks in line with risk appetite.
- Provide leadership in product review and development through market feedback.
- Collaborate with internal teams (CIB, Asset Finance, Bancassurance, Lead Generation) to maximize cross-selling opportunities.
- Conduct market intelligence to identify new opportunities, customer trends, and regulatory changes.
- Manage borrowing and non-borrowing accounts to enhance customer retention.
- Drive branch sales targets, customer acquisitions, balance sheet growth, and customer retention.
- Maintain strong relationships with top clients and business influencers.
- Provide regular feedback to staff on sales performance and customer experience.
- Ensure strict adherence to Absa’s policies, compliance guidelines, and operational procedures.
2. Internal Controls, Governance, Compliance, and Cost Management (15%)
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including KYC and AML policies.
- Oversee operational rigor to achieve satisfactory audit ratings.
- Manage cost elements such as branch expenditure, equipment maintenance, stationery, and staff costs.
- Review and approve service provider quotations and control expenses within set budgets.
- Ensure timely reporting and resolution of audit exceptions.
3. Customer Experience and Service Excellence (15%)
- Maintain the branch look and feel as per Absa’s standards.
- Ensure prompt customer query resolution and adherence to turnaround times (TAT).
- Monitor and maintain high Net Promoter Score (NPS) standards.
- Lead customer experience initiatives and ensure up-to-date customer data management.
- Oversee transaction migration to digital channels and implement service improvement feedback.
4. Capacity Building and People Management (10%)
- Build a high-performing, motivated, and cohesive branch team.
- Provide leadership through performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, and regular staff rotations.
- Manage staff leave, resource planning, and succession planning.
- Lead training, e-learning, and development programs for staff.
- Handle disciplinary issues, grievances, and branch team welfare.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Advanced diplomas or post-graduate qualifications will be an added advantage.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years banking/financial services experience.
- At least 3 years in branch management with a strong track record of business growth and compliance.
Technical Competencies:
- Strong leadership, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial product knowledge, lending, risk management, and customer relationship management.
- Familiarity with banking regulations, audit standards, and operational policies.
- Competency in technology and computerized banking applications.
Behavioral Competencies:
- Results-driven, ethical, and integrity-focused.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and people management skills.
- Ability to foster team development, manage conflicts, and motivate staff.
- Keen attention to operational risks, compliance, and financial crime prevention.
