Absa Bank Kenya is currently seeking a highly experienced and motivated individual for the role of Compliance Officer. This role will be instrumental in managing end-to-end compliance risks for Absa Bancassurance Intermediary Limited and Absa Asset Management Limited, both of which are subsidiaries of Absa Bank Kenya.

Key Responsibilities of the Compliance Officer Role
As the Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for providing compliance advisory support, regulatory reporting, stakeholder management, and implementing compliance policies for Absa’s subsidiaries.
1. Advisory Compliance Support (45%)
- Provide proactive compliance support and advisory services to Absa Bancassurance Intermediary Limited and Absa Asset Management Limited.
- Stay abreast of new regulatory developments and guide the businesses towards compliance.
- Offer day-to-day compliance guidance on business dealings and regulatory matters.
- Implement compliance policies, methodologies, and procedures to ensure adherence to regulations.
- Lead and deliver specific compliance-related projects and initiatives.
- Promote a strong compliance culture through awareness and training activities.
- Participate in the new product initiative process by reviewing proposals for regulatory compliance.
- Ensure business units address concerns raised by regulators and deliver on commitments.
- Follow up on compliance-related findings, audit recommendations, and action items.
- Provide business impact analysis for new regulatory requirements.
2. Regulatory Liaison (20%)
- Manage regulatory relationships effectively, including liaising with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), and Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA).
- Respond to regulatory requests and ensure timely closure of regulatory commitments.
- Maintain open communication channels with regulators to ensure alignment and compliance.
3. Stakeholder Management (15%)
- Collaborate with in-country Compliance Directors and internal stakeholders on compliance matters.
- Participate in meetings and forums to identify compliance risks and provide solutions.
- Communicate regulatory updates and concerns to internal business units.
- Assist business units in drafting presentations and correspondence for regulators.
- Conduct regular meetings with internal stakeholders to discuss compliance issues.
4. Compliance Reporting (20%)
- Prepare and submit accurate compliance reports to various governance forums.
- Provide timely reports to the in-country Compliance Director.
- Ensure compliance returns and regulatory reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly) are submitted as per schedule.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Management, Law, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Compliance Management within the banking, financial services, or insurance sector.
Technical Competencies:
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks governing the financial services industry in Kenya.
- Familiarity with AML (Anti-Money Laundering) compliance, KYC (Know Your Customer) policies, and risk management frameworks.
- Proficiency in regulatory reporting, stakeholder engagement, and compliance advisory services.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage relationships with regulators and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
