Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Your key duties will include:

1. General Ledger Management

  • Work closely with the Assistant General Ledger Manager to ensure the accuracy of the General Ledger.
  • Assist in balance sheet reconciliation, including:
  1. Cash & Bank
  2. Fixed Asset Register
  3. Other Liabilities (Suppliers’ Outstanding Balances, Provisions & Accruals, Deferred Income, and RoU Lease Liability)
  • Promptly resolve aged reconciling items in financial statements.

2. Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Maintain the Lease Register and ensure updates under IFRS 16 standards.
  • Ensure the accuracy of inventories and low-value assets by coordinating periodic stock counts.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating expenses, ensuring that all costs are allocated correctly.
  • Provide necessary audit schedules for both internal and external audits.
  • Participate in end-of-month financial closure activities.

3. Cross-Department Support & Substitution

  • Substitute for finance officers during their absence or vacation periods.
  • Cooperate with other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Assist with other finance-related duties as assigned by the Assistant Finance Manager – GL, Finance Manager, or Head of Finance.

Qualifications & Skills Required

To succeed in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Kenya (K)

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in Financial Accounting
  • Exposure to Financial Planning & Analysis is an added advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Google Sheets
  • Familiarity with financial software and accounting systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and audit reports

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with teams.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • A proactive and self-driven mindset with a passion for continuous learning.
