KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver direct patient care through clinical practice, focusing on decentralized and service-based programs by identifying high-risk patients and implementing targeted interventions to enhance quality and safety outcomes across the hospital.
  • Identify prescriptions that may pose risks to patients, addressing and resolving potential issues before dispensing medications to ensure patient safety and compliance with healthcare standards.
  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services throughout the facility, demonstrating proficiency in dispensing prescription medications as directed by physicians and other healthcare practitioners in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in pharmacy operations and medication dispensing processes by collaborating closely with the procurement department to facilitate the ordering, procurement, and dispensing of specialty medications as needed.
  • Coordinate medication deliveries in partnership with pharmacy managers, ensuring an efficient and organized workflow for all dispensing activities, including timely distribution across various hospital departments.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of medications to inpatient, discharge, outpatient, and satellite center patients, adhering to internal standards, acceptable timelines, and local regulations established by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Facilitate experiential education and practice advancements by identifying, designing, and implementing improvements in the medication-use system, aiming to enhance patient safety, maximize therapeutic outcomes, and control operational costs effectively.
  • Promote patient awareness and understanding by providing detailed medication counseling, ensuring patients grasp the purpose, duration, special instructions, and common adverse effects of their prescribed treatments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution, serving as the foundational academic requirement for this role.
  • Must hold a valid membership and practicing license registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya, ensuring full compliance with national regulatory standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years of working experience as a pharmacist, demonstrating practical expertise in dispensing medications and managing pharmaceutical services.
