Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization providing aid to populations affected by armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. With health projects spanning over 70 countries, MSF is dedicated to delivering emergency medical care and long-term health programs.

Since 1996, MSF France has had a strong presence in Kenya, particularly in Homa Bay, where it collaborates with HBCTRH to improve adult patient care in medical in-patient and TB wards. Additionally, MSF France manages chronic disease programs across decentralized sites.


Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense prescribed medications accurately while ensuring all essential details are labeled, including drug name, strength, quantity, expiry date, directions for use, storage instructions, and potential side effects.
  • Provide clear instructions and guidance to patients regarding proper medication use, ensuring full comprehension.
  • Adhere to MSF protocols for medicine dispensing, with a strong emphasis on confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage stock levels, ensuring timely orders, maintaining accurate records, and verifying expiry dates.
  • Ensure medication safety, securely storing all pharmaceuticals and preventing unauthorized access.
  • Maintain accurate dispensing records and submit reports regularly to the technical reference.
  • Ensure a clean and organized dispensary, maintaining hygiene and proper handling of medicines to avoid contamination.
  • Monitor medicine quality and promptly report any issues, including damage, loss, or contamination.
  • Provide patient education on medication adherence, particularly for chronic conditions like HIV and TB.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, informing doctors of non-adherence issues and suggesting solutions.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Essential: A paramedical background is desirable.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Essential: Basic mathematical skills and experience with measuring equipment.
  • Essential: At least six months of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: Previous experience with MSF or other NGOs.
  • Desirable: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
