Exciting Opportunity for a Swedish-Speaking Professional in Nairobi!

Are you fluent in Swedish and English, with a passion for consular services and administrative work? The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Swedish-Speaking Local Consular/Administrative Officer to join our team. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of extension, offering a chance to work in an engaging, multicultural environment.

As part of the embassy’s administrative section, you will play a crucial role in handling consular affairs, visa processing, and diplomatic interactions. If you are a Swedish citizen with relevant experience and are currently residing in Kenya, this is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to Sweden’s diplomatic mission in East Africa.


About the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi

The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi represents Sweden in Kenya, Somalia, Seychelles, and Comoros, as well as at the United Nations agencies in Nairobi. Our mission is to promote peace, democracy, and trade relations in the region while facilitating development cooperation in Kenya, Somalia, and across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The embassy also plays a significant role in visa processing for Schengen countries and offers consular support to Swedish citizens residing in or traveling through Kenya. With a team of approximately 80 employees, we work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment that fosters collaboration, efficiency, and professionalism.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage consular matters, including passport applications and coordination numbers for Swedish citizens.
  • Represent the embassy in EU meetings, discussions with other embassies, Kenyan authorities, and external stakeholders when required.
  • Draft reports and official documents in both Swedish and English, ensuring accuracy and compliance with embassy policies.
  • Assist in internal administrative processes, contributing to the smooth operation of the embassy.
  • Handle general administrative tasks as assigned by the Chief of Staff or other senior personnel.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • Swedish Citizenship (mandatory requirement).
  • Fluency in Swedish and English (both written and spoken).
  • Academic degree in a relevant field (e.g., Political Science, International Relations, Law, Administration, or similar).
  • Experience in consular or administrative services is highly desirable.
  • Previous work experience in a Swedish authority or diplomatic mission is an added advantage.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Must be already residing in Kenya (as the embassy does not cover relocation or work/residence permit costs).
