INTRODUCTION

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a dynamic professional to lead strategic coordination efforts at the intersection of global mental health, youth advocacy, and nonprofit coalition-building. As a Project Manager, you will work directly with founding members to manage a diverse network of stakeholders and ensure successful implementation across four distinct workstreams. The role offers a chance to shape impactful programs, organize global convenings, and foster partnerships that transform how mental health is addressed across Kenya and beyond.

Candidates who bring organizational excellence, stakeholder engagement experience, and a passion for social change will thrive in this high-impact, full-time position. Exceptional applicants may be considered for a remote or hybrid arrangement, making it both flexible and mission-driven.

ABOUT SHAMIRI INSTITUTE

Shamiri Institute is a leading mental health organization based in Nairobi, focused on improving adolescent well-being through low-cost, evidence-based interventions. The Institute is known for developing culturally relevant mental wellness solutions grounded in scientific research and delivered in schools and communities across Kenya.

In addition to direct implementation, Shamiri plays a vital role in convening key partners through a unique multi-organizational Coalition, which advances youth mental health through collaboration, innovation, and shared learning. This Coalition is organized into four dedicated workstreams, each addressing critical dimensions of mental health strategy. The Project Manager will play an essential role in ensuring these workstreams are effectively coordinated and that the Coalition meets its strategic objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Project Manager, you will lead the operational and strategic delivery of the Coalition’s mission, playing both a managerial and facilitative role across its ecosystem of partners. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute project plans, timelines, and KPIs that are directly aligned with the Coalition’s overarching goals and multi-stakeholder commitments.

  • Manage incoming membership applications, ensuring all applications are reviewed through a rigorous and timely evaluation process.

  • Collaborate with Workstream Leads to co-develop deliverables, budget estimates, and performance tracking systems to ensure execution remains within scope, budget, and timeline.

  • Organize and lead Coalition meetings, providing structure for updates, discussions, decisions, and follow-ups, while facilitating knowledge-sharing across workstreams.

  • Coordinate high-level convenings and events, including Shamiri’s presence at prestigious platforms such as the Skoll World Forum, and build relationships across the global mental health landscape.

  • Oversee external communication activities, including drafting and distributing quarterly newsletters, managing social media updates, and ensuring external audiences remain informed and engaged.

  • Report consistently to the Governance Committee, delivering data-driven updates and maintaining transparency, accountability, and alignment with Coalition expectations.

  • Assist in developing and monitoring the Coalition’s overall budget, while supporting the budgeting processes for individual workstreams.

  • Cultivate relationships with key donors, partners, and policymakers, playing a central role in sustaining the Coalition’s momentum and future growth.

  • Support fundraising efforts, including the preparation of compelling funding proposals, progress reports, and donor communications in partnership with the Coalition’s Founders.

This position will require a high level of independence, multitasking, and ownership in a dynamic environment where you will be expected to drive both process and people.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The successful candidate for this role will be an experienced project manager with a proven track record of leading complex initiatives and working with diverse teams. Key qualifications include:

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably within nonprofit, public health, youth development, or social impact sectors.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and deliver against deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, with experience managing external stakeholders, donors, and multi-agency relationships.

  • Hands-on experience in using digital productivity tools, including Trello, Asana, Slack, and Google Workspace.

  • Experience managing events, budgets, and reporting cycles, particularly within donor-funded environments.

  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in producing reports, grant proposals, and newsletters.

  • An interest in mental health and youth development, and a passion for equity in access to care.

  • Capacity to work autonomously, with minimal supervision in a flat organizational structure.

  • Academic background in project management, social sciences, public health, psychology, or other relevant fields is preferred.

  • Experience working in Kenya or East Africa and knowledge of the regional development landscape is an added advantage.
