About The Action Foundation

The Action Foundation (TAF) is a Kenyan organization committed to empowering children and youth with disabilities (CYWDs) through inclusive education, health services, and advocacy for disability rights. Since 2009, TAF has positively impacted over 20,000 CYWDs by working with public and community-level institutions to ensure equal access to opportunities.

TAF envisions a fully inclusive Africa where CYWDs thrive with dignity and equality. Through research, strategic partnerships, and advocacy, we engage with policymakers and stakeholders to influence disability-inclusive service delivery across Kenya. Our programs address critical barriers in education, health, and social protection, with a particular focus on gender equality and the rights of girls and women with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Advocacy and Thought Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Policy and Advocacy Director to implement TAF’s systems change strategy.
  • Monitor national policy developments and build relationships with policymakers, civil society organizations, and disability rights groups.
  • Develop policy papers and position statements on key disability inclusion issues based on research and data.
  • Identify key advocacy opportunities and conduct power analysis to inform strategic interventions.
  • Support program teams in developing advocacy briefs, reports, and strategic communication materials.
  • Engage in policy dialogues that advance the rights of CYWDs at national and regional levels.
  • Lead knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives for stakeholders on disability issues.

Producing Advocacy Products

  • Develop evidence-based advocacy messaging for national and regional disability inclusion priorities.
  • Ensure all advocacy documents, campaigns, and media strategies are high-quality and data-driven.
  • Advise on media strategy and advocacy messaging for public engagement.

External Engagement and Influencing

  • Establish systems for research, policy analysis, and documentation to support evidence-based advocacy.
  • Lead national and international influencing efforts in collaboration with stakeholders and disability rights networks.
  • Represent TAF in policy forums, conferences, and multi-sectoral working groups.
  • Strengthen partnerships with government entities, donors, and advocacy groups to promote disability inclusion.

Integrated Policy Programming Support

  • Align advocacy strategies with TAF’s Strategic Plan (2025-2029).
  • Ensure advocacy objectives are integrated into program design and implementation.
  • Support proposal development by embedding advocacy-focused activities in funding applications.

Qualifications and Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or disability rights development.
  • Strong knowledge of national and international policies related to disability inclusion and social protection.
  • Experience in policy research, drafting policy briefs, and engaging with government stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing advocacy strategies for systemic change.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Commitment to gender equality and social inclusion in policy advocacy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (additional language proficiency is a plus).
  • Experience working in diverse cultural settings and understanding of disability-sensitive approaches.

  • Excellent writing and analytical skills with a proven ability to translate complex policy issues into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong public speaking and negotiation skills for policy dialogues and stakeholder engagement.

  • Knowledge of advocacy tools such as policy mapping, power analysis, and campaign development.
  • Experience using digital platforms for advocacy communication and outreach.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
