Introduction

Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is a premier state corporation committed to advancing specialized healthcare, medical research, education, and training. As part of the NIHR Global Health Research Group collaboration, we aim to improve oesophageal cancer survival in Kenya through a hub and spoke model, with KUTRRH as the hub and mobile clinics operating across five counties.

The role of Nursing Officer (Endoscopy) involves working within a mobile clinic setup to provide endoscopy services, ensuring optimal patient care and supporting the delivery of our research objectives.


Key Responsibilities

As a Nursing Officer (Endoscopy), you will:

  1. Patient Care
    • Provide specialized nursing care during endoscopic procedures.
    • Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services.
    • Monitor patient recovery post-procedure, ensuring safety and comfort.
  2. Technical Support
    • Operate and maintain endoscopy equipment in compliance with safety protocols.
    • Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to infection control practices.
  3. Administrative Duties
    • Maintain accurate patient records, including procedure details and follow-up care.
    • Assist in coordinating the mobile clinic’s schedules and activities in different counties.
  4. Collaboration
    • Work closely with doctors, researchers, and other healthcare professionals to enhance service delivery.
    • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff as needed.
  5. Research Support
    • Participate in research activities related to oesophageal cancer care.
    • Assist in data collection and reporting as part of the research project requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Valid Nursing Council of Kenya practicing license.
  • Certification in endoscopy nursing or relevant specialized training.
  • Proven experience in handling endoscopy procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of mobile healthcare operations.
  • Training in infection prevention and control.
  • Previous experience working in a research-driven healthcare setting.

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
