This voluntary recruitment exercise will take place across all counties in Kenya from February 10th to February 15th, 2025. Successful candidates will undergo rigorous paramilitary training and be involved in various national development projects. About National Youth Service (NYS)
The National Youth Service (NYS) is a state-run paramilitary organization under the Government of Kenya. Since its establishment, NYS has played a critical role in youth empowerment, national security, disaster response, and economic development. Through a structured training program, NYS instills discipline, patriotism, and leadership while equipping young Kenyans with technical skills that contribute to national growth.
NYS offers a wide range of training opportunities in areas such as agriculture, construction, disaster response, automotive mechanics, engineering, healthcare, and more. Recruits also get the chance to participate in major community projects such as road construction, afforestation, and environmental conservation. Key Responsibilities of NYS Recruits
As an NYS Volunteer Serviceman or Servicewoman, you will be expected to:
- Undergo rigorous paramilitary training at NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil and NYS Training Institute in Naivasha.
- Participate in community development programs, including infrastructure projects, road construction, and public service activities.
- Engage in national security support activities, including disaster response, rescue missions, and public order maintenance.
- Acquire technical skills training in engineering, agriculture, ICT, and vocational trades.
- Promote peace and cohesion by working in diverse communities.
- Uphold the highest levels of discipline, integrity, and service to the nation.
- Be ready to be deployed in any part of the country as required.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the NYS Volunteer Recruitment 2025, applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- Be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective sub-county of recruitment.
- Be between 18 and 24 years old.
- Have a minimum KCSE Grade of D plain and above.
- Possess a valid National Identity Card (ID).
- Have original academic certificates (with a photocopy set for verification).
- Provide a Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Be physically and medically fit for rigorous training.
- Be willing to serve in any part of Kenya.
- Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment and training.
Special Consideration:
- Orphans who meet the above qualifications will be given priority (must provide death certificates of parents).
- Persons with disabilities (PWDs) are encouraged to apply if they can endure the physical training.
- Applicants with recognized sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
