About the Program

The Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya Project is a groundbreaking initiative designed to:

  • Implement a climate-adapted “green” version of the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP).
  • Facilitate the creation of competitive, profitable Green Enterprises.
  • Support women, youth, and refugees in Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana counties, and Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlements.
  • Build economic resilience over a three-year period through collaborative efforts with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Smart Regional Consultants (SRC).

Key Responsibilities

As a Mentor for the LIFT NK Programme, your role involves empowering individuals and fostering sustainable economic development. Key tasks include:

  1. Program Management:
    • Oversee the implementation of the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) within the LIFT framework.
    • Guide participants in starting businesses that promote economic growth and environmental conservation.
  2. Mentorship and Guidance:
    • Provide mentorship to small business enterprises under the REAP – LIFT Programme.
    • Conduct training sessions on financial management, business skills, and savings practices for designated communities.
    • Encourage green entrepreneurship and the adoption of climate-smart technologies.
  3. Community Engagement:
    • Collaborate with local committees to identify eligible participants using tools like Participatory Wealth Ranking.
    • Facilitate decision-making processes within Business Groups (BGs) to ensure sustainable growth.
  4. Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Collect and upload performance data for individuals, business groups, and savings groups using the BOMA Taroworks system.
    • Monitor progress and submit regular reports to the Field Officer.
  5. Local Representation:
    • Act as BOMA’s representative in local development committees, fostering strong community ties.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in data collection and mentorship activities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with women and local communities.
  • Self-driven with the capability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of English, Swahili, and the local language.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a native of the respective location.
  • Valid motorcycle license or willingness to obtain one within three months of employment.
