INTRODUCTION
The African Union (AU) is inviting qualified and passionate individuals to apply for its Internship Program 2025. This internship provides an exceptional opportunity for young professionals and students to gain hands-on experience in various fields, enhance their career prospects, and contribute to Africa’s integration and development. The program is designed to foster a deeper understanding of Pan-African affairs, policy formulation, and intergovernmental operations while offering real-world exposure to international organizational dynamics.
This is a full-time internship that offers an invaluable opportunity to develop professional skills, interact with experts across various disciplines, and enhance cultural competence within a diverse and dynamic environment. Selected interns will support the African Union Commission (AUC) in implementing key initiatives, policies, and programs aimed at fostering sustainable development and continental cooperation.
Interns will gain exposure to critical African Union policies, including Agenda 2063, the Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and peace and security frameworks that shape Africa’s future. This experience is particularly beneficial for those interested in governance, diplomacy, public administration, and international relations.

Through its internship program, the AU seeks to empower the next generation of African leaders, equipping them with practical skills, knowledge, and international exposure to help them make meaningful contributions to the continent’s growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns will assist in providing technical and administrative support across various African Union departments and directorates, including:
- Assisting in research, policy analysis, and report writing to support decision-making at the AU.
- Supporting the implementation of projects and programs within AU directorates.
- Engaging in data collection, entry, and analysis to aid departmental operations.
- Attending and summarizing conferences, workshops, and meetings.
- Assisting in document preparation, presentations, and publications.
- Providing technical and operational support in diverse areas, including human resources, communication, security, financial management, and strategic planning.
- Supporting initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality, peace, and development across African states.
- Participating in the development and execution of continental initiatives and partnerships.
- Engaging in cross-cultural collaboration and knowledge exchange with experts and professionals.
- Conducting impact assessments on existing AU programs and policies.
- Assisting in the development of frameworks, regulations, and recommendations for key AU programs.
- Facilitating communication and coordination efforts between AU institutions and member states.
- Working closely with regional economic communities (RECs) and international organizations to implement joint initiatives.
- Assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of AU-led projects and programs.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for this internship program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or have obtained a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Postgraduate qualification in a related field.
- Be a national of an African Union Member State.
- Be a full-time student or recent graduate within the past two years.
- Be fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese). Proficiency in an additional AU language is an advantage.
- Be no older than 32 years at the time of application.
- Possess high moral integrity and professional conduct.
- Have no criminal record, excluding minor traffic offenses.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in Pan-African affairs, policy implementation, and governance.
- Prior work experience is not required.
- Have the ability to work in a fast-paced and multicultural environment.
- Be adaptable and open to learning new skills and technologies relevant to their area of specialization.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Unpaid Program: The AU does not provide financial compensation for interns. Interns must cover their travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
- Visa Assistance: The AU will provide reasonable assistance in obtaining entry and residence visas.
- Duration: The internship lasts three (3) months, renewable once.
- Health Insurance: Interns must have medical insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.
- Travel & Relocation: The AU does not cover travel or relocation costs.
- Work Commitment: Interns are expected to work full-time and engage actively in assigned tasks and responsibilities.
