Girl Child Network (GCN) is a well-established, non-political, non-religious, non-profit organization registered in Kenya (Reg. No. OP.218/051/12 – 0334/8160). Our mission is to promote and protect the rights of young girls and women by ensuring they have access to education, economic opportunities, and overall well-being. We work in partnership with various local and international stakeholders to develop and implement programs that support the empowerment of girls and young women in Kenya. Key Responsibilities

As a Finance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring adherence to the organization’s policies and donor requirements. Your key responsibilities will include:

Financial Management and Budgeting

  • Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s financial plans and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on the burn rates of allocated budgets to ensure funds are utilized effectively.

Grants Management

  • Supervise and monitor the financial aspects of grants and donor funds.
  • Conduct due diligence on project-implementing partners.
  • Oversee the disbursement and tracking of funds to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Ensure that all grant-related financial transactions are well-documented and reported.

Financial Reporting and Auditing

  • Prepare and present financial statements, donor reports, and annual budgets.
  • Ensure timely submission of financial reports to donors and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead the coordination of external and internal audits.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Team Coordination and Capacity Strengthening

  • Oversee and manage the finance team, ensuring efficient and accurate financial operations.
  • Conduct capacity-building training for staff and implementing partners on financial policies and best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and financial risk management measures.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax laws, statutory requirements, and NGO financial regulations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in financial regulations affecting the NGO sector.
  • Develop and implement financial risk management policies to safeguard the organization’s assets.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for this Finance Manager position must possess the following qualifications and skills:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Finance option) or a related field.
  • A Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is highly desirable.
  • CPA (K) or ACCA professional qualification is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the NGO sector in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of grants management, donor reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial planning, and policy implementation.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
  • Excellent knowledge of financial reporting standards and donor regulations.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and build capacity within the finance team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
