This position is onsite, requiring extensive fieldwork and farmer interaction in Machakos County.

Key Responsibilities

1. Farmer Recruitment, Training, and Engagement

  • Identify and recruit smallholder farmers, farmer groups, and lead farmers.
  • Onboard, schedule, and train farmer groups and farm leads.
  • Conduct regular visits to farmers to monitor progress and adoption of Regenerative Agriculture practices.
  • Establish and manage demonstration farms to showcase best agricultural practices.
  • Support farmers in accessing organic inputs, biofertilizers, improved seeds, and other essential farming resources.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of key crops and agricultural value chains.
  • Assist in the aggregation of produce for market readiness.
  • Manage company hubs and coordinate logistics for training, inputs, and produce aggregation.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports following company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

2. Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Foster strong relationships with local government officials and agricultural organizations.
  • Engage local organizations and activate strategic partnerships to support company initiatives.
  • Act as the company ambassador, ensuring positive community relations with farmers, village elders, and local stakeholders.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the management team regarding community needs, market trends, and potential improvements in products and services.

Qualifications & Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in farmer training, field extension, regenerative agriculture, or rural development.
  • Strong knowledge of soil health, organic farming, agroecology, and climate-smart agriculture.
  • Experience in training and mentoring smallholder farmers, farmer groups, and farm leads.
  • Technical expertise in agricultural inputs and their proper usage.
  • Willingness to work in remote areas with frequent travel and minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic ICT skills, including data collection and report writing.

Preferred Skills & Additional Requirements

  • Experience working with farmer cooperatives, NGOs, or agricultural organizations.
  • Familiarity with USSD, ERP software, GIS mapping, and mobile data collection tools.
  • Ability to communicate in the native Akamba language is an advantage.
  • Motorcycle license is a plus for easier mobility.
