I Choose Life – Africa (ICL), one of Kenya’s leading youth-focused development organizations, is currently hiring a Communications Intern based in Nairobi to join its dynamic programs team.
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in strategic communications within the NGO sector. The internship will involve producing visual content, managing social media channels, supporting internal communications, and contributing to public visibility campaigns for youth empowerment, health, education, and governance projects across Kenya.

ABOUT I CHOOSE LIFE – AFRICA (ICL)
I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) is a registered non-governmental organization founded in 2004 and headquartered in Nairobi. ICL operates across 26 counties in Kenya and implements youth-centric programs in partnership with the Government of Kenya, civil society organizations, the private sector, and academic institutions.
The organization has a footprint in over 345 learning institutions—from primary schools and secondary schools to universities—supporting youth aged 10 to 34. With a strong focus on sustainable development, ICL empowers youth to improve their health, educational outcomes, employability, and civic engagement.

ICL’s Communications Department is pivotal in raising awareness of these programs, supporting advocacy work, and enhancing the visibility of project outcomes through multimedia storytelling and evidence-driven engagement.
JOB PURPOSE
The Communications Intern will work under the supervision of the Communications Officer and in close collaboration with project managers, health teams, stakeholders, and county-level partners.
The intern will support strategic communications by producing high-quality digital and print content, organizing IT-based outreach, and managing internal and external information flows. This role will involve a blend of photography, social media administration, basic IT support, graphic content creation, and storytelling.
This internship is designed to provide hands-on training, real-world experience, and meaningful mentorship. By the end of the program, the intern will have built a professional portfolio that reflects their creativity, versatility, and understanding of communication for development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Photography & Videography:
-
Capture high-quality photos and videos during events, training sessions, and community outreach programs.

Edit and archive visual content for future reports and promotional use.

Assist in preparing short documentary clips, reels, or testimonial videos for social media and advocacy campaigns.

Content Creation & Graphic Design:
-
Design visual content, including flyers, infographics, and newsletters.
-
Support the creation of program-specific communications materials tailored to youth audiences.

Use tools like Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or Illustrator to design communication assets.

Social Media Management:
-
Draft, schedule, and publish posts across ICL’s social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
-
Monitor engagement, reply to comments, and report analytics.
-
Help grow the organization’s digital presence and maintain a consistent brand voice.
-

Internal Communications:
-
Coordinate communications between ICL staff, departments, and field offices.
-
Prepare summaries and briefs on upcoming campaigns, projects, and training.
-
Organize and maintain the department’s digital filing systems.
-

Reporting & Documentation:
-
Support the production of monthly and quarterly program reports.
-
Provide communication support during donor visits, site tours, and county stakeholder forums.
-
Document success stories, case studies, and beneficiary profiles.

IT & Technical Support:
-
Assist with troubleshooting basic IT issues, such as projector setup, email login, or presentation formatting.

Coordinate digital meetings and virtual workshops (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet).
-
Support digital equipment management (cameras, tablets, laptops).
-

General Administrative Duties:
-
Assist in event logistics and branding setup for public forums.
-
Handle general office communications-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, IT, or a related field.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
-
Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Meta Business Suite).
-
Experience using photo and video editing software is a plus.
-
Prior experience or internship in a communication, digital media, or NGO setting will be an added advantage.

Strong interest in youth empowerment, sustainable development, and storytelling.
