Light for the World is a global disability and development organization that champions inclusive systems, eye health, and economic empowerment for people with disabilities. With a presence in Kenya, Light for the World promotes access to work, education, and healthcare while creating systemic change in communities and institutions.

We are currently seeking a passionate and creative Communication Intern to support the Kenya team in amplifying our impact, documenting program success, and enhancing our digital and offline visibility.

This internship is ideal for graduates in communications, journalism, media, or design, who want to build a meaningful career in the social impact and international development sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation and Documentation

  • Assist in developing and documenting multimedia impact stories, success case studies, and lessons learned.
  • Support the design and layout of publications including newsletters, reports, infographics, and advocacy briefs.
  • Ensure that all communication materials meet UNCRPD accessibility standards and organizational brand guidelines.

Social Media and Digital Engagement

  • Collaborate on developing and executing an inclusive social media strategy aligned with program objectives.
  • Create engaging, accessible, and diverse content (graphics, posts, short videos) for Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Support digital storytelling campaigns that promote visibility of people with disabilities in Kenya.
  • Monitor audience engagement, analyze social media metrics, and contribute creative ideas.

Event Support and Field Documentation

  • Assist in planning and executing communication activities at events, workshops, and field visits.
  • Coordinate with programs to capture key moments, testimonials, and milestones in real time.
  • Manage consent procedures and ethical storytelling practices during field documentation.

Branding and Visibility

  • Ensure branding consistency across all internal and external communication products.
  • Support the implementation of donor branding and visibility guidelines in materials and events.
  • Assist in coordinating media coverage, press releases, and public engagement activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in storytelling, inclusion, disability rights, and/or international development.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, community engagement, and digital marketing tools.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.) is essential.
  • Experience in video editing, photography, or website content development is an added advantage.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a multicultural team.
