KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Business Development Officer, you will be responsible for the acquisition, development, and retention of a profitable business portfolio that supports the organization’s revenue goals and market expansion agenda.

Your core duties will revolve around four strategic areas:

1. Market Expansion and Lead Generation

  • Proactively identify new business opportunities in target market segments including individuals, SMEs, corporations, and public institutions

  • Conduct market mapping, competitor analysis, and lead generation activities to establish a robust pipeline

  • Build relationships with insurance brokers, agents, and corporate intermediaries, converting leads into policy sales

  • Attend trade exhibitions, networking forums, and stakeholder events to promote Fidelity Insurance offerings

  • Initiate prospecting visits, sales calls, and product presentations to new and potential clients

  • Develop tailored insurance proposals in collaboration with the underwriting and product development teams

2. Recruitment and Relationship Management

  • Identify and recruit new agents, brokers, and intermediaries, expanding Fidelity’s distribution channels

  • Onboard and train intermediaries to align with Fidelity’s products, policies, and customer service standards

  • Maintain ongoing communication with intermediaries, ensuring they receive timely support and feedback

  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews of brokers and agents, providing coaching where necessary

  • Foster long-term partnerships through trust-building, issue resolution, and joint planning sessions

  • Resolve complaints and policy issues in collaboration with underwriting, claims, and customer service departments

3. Sales and Target Delivery

  • Drive insurance sales across products such as motor, property, liability, personal accident, and health

  • Prepare and execute monthly business development plans aligned to sales targets, campaign priorities, and profitability ratios

  • Provide periodic reports on sales performance, client acquisition costs, and retention metrics

  • Coordinate with internal departments to deliver quotations, product customizations, and follow-ups

  • Ensure all new business complies with internal underwriting policies and external regulatory standards

  • Meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales targets across all channels under your jurisdiction

4. Portfolio Maintenance and Compliance

  • Monitor the growth and performance of your assigned portfolio to identify renewal needs, claims trends, and coverage gaps

  • Work closely with the claims and risk assessment teams to ensure client satisfaction and policy retention

  • Support the implementation of customer feedback mechanisms, loyalty programs, and targeted promotions

  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and compliance in all interactions

  • Stay updated with insurance regulatory changes, IRA circulars, and market trends that affect operations

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Fidelity Insurance is looking for a competent and ambitious business development professional with hands-on experience in the Kenyan insurance sector.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, Sales Management, or any related field

  • Ongoing or completed certification in Insurance from CII or IIK (Chartered Insurance Institute or Insurance Institute of Kenya) is required

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in the insurance industry

  • At least 1 year in business development, client acquisition, or agency management

  • Proven success in delivering sales targets in a competitive market

  • Demonstrated experience in client relationship management and channel development

Core Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of insurance products, policies, and regulatory requirements

  • Excellent negotiation, networking, and persuasive communication skills

  • High levels of self-drive, accountability, and strategic thinking

  • Ability to analyze market data and generate actionable insights

  • Tech-savvy with the ability to use CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and digital communication platforms
