ESSENTIAL JOB DETAILS

  • Contract Duration: 11 months (with 3 months’ probation)

INTRODUCTION

The International Centre for Reproductive Health Kenya (ICRHK) is a respected Kenya-based NGO working in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH). With a strong track record in HIV/STI prevention, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) response, Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health, and Adolescent SRH, ICRHK is a leader in research-driven health programming.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen research capacity and evidence-based programming, ICRHK is recruiting 17 research professionals across three counties in Kenya. The organization is seeking individuals who are passionate, ethical, and experienced in community-based and clinical research to fill roles in Research Coordination, Research Assistance, and Data Management.

These vacancies offer an opportunity to join a multidisciplinary research team working to improve health outcomes in Kenya’s most vulnerable populations.

VACANCIES BREAKDOWN

1. Research Coordinators – 2 Positions

  • Location: Kilifi & Nairobi Counties
  • Reports To: HIV/AIDS/STI Technical Lead

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of research studies including planning, implementation, and reporting
  • Coordinate and monitor data collection to ensure accuracy and adherence to protocols
  • Act as the primary liaison with healthcare facilities, service providers, and participants
  • Ensure full compliance with research ethics and institutional review guidelines
  • Train and supervise research assistants and clinical staff on research protocols and SOPs
  • Prepare periodic progress reports and contribute to donor reporting
  • Monitor protocol compliance and implement necessary corrective actions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in research project management
  • Competency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research ethics
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Attributes:

  • Familiarity with national STI protocols and health systems
  • Experience working in public health facilities
  • Ability to manage multiple research sites simultaneously

2. Research Assistants – 14 Positions

  • Location: Public health facilities in Kilifi & Nairobi Counties
  • Reports To: Research Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, screen, and obtain informed consent from study participants
  • Administer study questionnaires and perform accurate electronic data entry
  • Conduct qualitative interviews including transcription and translation
  • Ensure adequate supplies and logistics for study implementation at site level
  • Implement all SOPs and research protocols
  • Generate weekly and monthly progress reports to research supervisors
  • Build strong rapport with facility staff and study participants

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Public Health, Community Health, or Social Sciences
  • Prior experience in data collection for health-related research projects
  • Ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative interviews

Desirable Attributes:

  • Knowledge of STI management and public health facility operations
  • Fluency in English and Swahili (written and spoken)
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel within assigned counties and work flexible hours

3. Data Officer – 1 Position

  • Location: Mombasa County
  • Reports To: Data Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update study databases and participant records
  • Conduct QA/QC of eCRFs and ensure consistency between digital and paper documentation
  • Print, label, and organize CRFs, consent forms, and supporting materials
  • Participate in data backup and secure archiving of study materials
  • Monitor data entry equipment and software for security and maintenance
  • Communicate with the Data Manager to ensure timely and accurate data flow

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel and data entry applications
  • Familiarity with digital data collection platforms (e.g., REDCap, ODK)

Preferred Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot data-related issues
  • Prior experience in managing clinical research data
