The Office of the Attorney General & Department of Justice (OAG & DOJ) is hiring for multiple entry-level government jobs in Kenya. The Office invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions:

1. Accountant II – 10 Positions

Job Overview:

This is an entry-level and training grade for individuals in the accounting cadre. The successful applicants will assist in handling routine financial and accounting functions, under the supervision of senior accountants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and verify payment vouchers per public sector rules and regulations

  • Conduct primary data entry into accounting systems

  • Maintain and reconcile cashbooks, imprest registers, and advances ledgers

  • Assist in preparing basic financial statements and expenditure reports

  • Ensure the safekeeping of accounting records and organizational assets

  • Participate in audits and internal control checks as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

To qualify for appointment to the position of Accountant II, Job Grade CSG 11, a candidate must meet either of the following:

Option 1:
Passed Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or an equivalent qualification recognized in Kenya

OR

Option 2:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting option), or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution

Personal & Core Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse environment

  • Good knowledge of financial procedures and public service accounting

  • Competence in handling accounting systems and software

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Records management and analytical skills

  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain financial integrity

  • Teamwork, time management, and resource care

2. Public Communication Officer II – 2 Positions

Job Overview:

This is the entry and training grade for officers in public communication. The officers will assist in public relations, media engagement, and government communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of institutional communication strategies

  • Assist in writing and uploading content for websites, social media, and newsletters

  • Participate in creating Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials

  • Monitor media for relevant content and trends

  • Help draft press statements, event briefs, and media reviews

  • Maintain and organize public relations records

  • Support event planning and publicity campaigns

Minimum Requirements:

To qualify for appointment to Public Communication Officer II, Job Grade CSG 11, a candidate must have:

Option 1:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Communication Studies, or Media Studies/Science from a recognized institution

OR

Option 2:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science with a Postgraduate Diploma in any of the above disciplines

AND
Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution

Key Competencies:

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with media relations and public communication trends

  • Knowledge of digital content development and media monitoring tools

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Creativity, flexibility, and adaptability

3. Clerical Officer II – 10 Positions

Job Overview:

This is the entry-level position for clerical staff in government service. Officers may be posted in various departments and will perform clerical and administrative support tasks.

Areas of Deployment:

  • Human Resource Management

  • General Registry

  • Supply Chain Management

  • Accounts

  • General Administrative Services

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Filing, indexing, and retrieving documents

  • Data entry and updating of records

  • Preparation of simple reports and schedules

  • Receiving and dispatching correspondence

  • Maintaining inventory and issuing office supplies

  • General administrative support under supervision

Minimum Requirements:

To be appointed to Clerical Officer II, Job Grade CSG 14, a candidate must have:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mean Grade C- (Minus) or its equivalent

  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution

Key Attributes:

  • Organization and time management skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision

  • Interpersonal skills and basic IT literacy
