About The Action Foundation

The Action Foundation (TAF) is a Kenyan organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and youth with disabilities (CYWDs). Since 2009, TAF has impacted over 20,000 CYWDs by providing health and education services and advocating for disability-inclusive policies. Through strategic collaborations, research, and innovative programs, TAF ensures that CYWDs, particularly girls and women, have access to opportunities that empower them to thrive.

TAF envisions an inclusive Africa where CYWDs experience dignity, equality, and full participation in society. The organization’s initiatives cover key areas such as child health and development, foundational learning, youth education, and economic empowerment. Through data-driven insights and partnerships with policymakers, TAF continues to champion disability rights across Kenya and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communication & Implementation

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with TAF’s mission.
  • Create and manage an annual Communications Calendar to ensure timely execution of campaigns.
  • Establish media relations strategies to position TAF as a leader in disability rights advocacy.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all platforms.
  • Monitor emerging trends in communication and recommend innovative strategies to enhance TAF’s impact.

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Develop compelling stories, case studies, blogs, and reports to showcase TAF’s impact.
  • Oversee the creation of multimedia content (videos, infographics, social media posts) for diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with program teams to document success stories and best practices.
  • Edit and proofread key documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, and engagement.

Digital & Social Media Management

  • Oversee TAF’s digital presence, including website, social media, and email newsletters.
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy to boost engagement and advocacy impact.
  • Track and analyze digital performance metrics to optimize reach and engagement.

Media Relations & Public Engagement

  • Act as the primary contact for media and public relations inquiries.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media houses, and influencers.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, opinion pieces, and media statements.
  • Organize press conferences, media briefings, and journalist fellowships.
  • Maintain a media contact database and track media coverage.

Advocacy Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop high-quality advocacy materials for disability rights campaigns.
  • Support policy engagement efforts through the creation of policy briefs and reports.
  • Represent TAF in advocacy forums and strategic partnerships.
  • Assist in organizing internal and external events, presentations, and learning sessions.

Grant Writing & Technical Documentation

  • Support the development of grant proposals and funding applications.
  • Work with program teams to document project impact for donor reports.
  • Ensure effective internal communication to keep staff informed on key updates.

Brand Management

  • Uphold TAF’s brand identity across all internal and external communications.
  • Develop crisis communication strategies to manage reputational risks.

Qualifications and Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communication, advocacy, or media relations (preferably in the nonprofit or social impact sector).
  • Proven experience in writing, editing, and storytelling, with a track record of high-quality content production.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing, social media management, and multimedia content creation.
  • Experience in media relations, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication.
  • Grant writing and technical documentation experience is an added advantage.
  • Passion for disability rights, gender equality, and social inclusion.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and video editing software is a plus.
