INTRODUCTION
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is a critical pillar of democracy in Kenya, overseeing electoral processes, voter registration, and constituency boundary reviews. This is an opportunity for highly qualified, ethical, and experienced professionals to contribute to upholding Kenya’s electoral integrity. The IEBC is seeking individuals with exceptional leadership, legal acumen, governance expertise, and strong ethical values to serve as Chairperson and Members.
These positions are full-time and will require individuals with an unwavering commitment to constitutional integrity and electoral fairness. This role is highly impactful and influential in ensuring transparent, free, and fair elections in Kenya.
ABOUT THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL AND BOUNDARIES COMMISSION (IEBC)
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is a constitutional commission established under Article 88 of the Kenyan Constitution. It is mandated to conduct and supervise elections and referenda, regulate political party processes, and review constituency boundaries in accordance with the law. The IEBC plays a pivotal role in Kenya’s democratic process, ensuring that elections are conducted with transparency, fairness, and integrity.
1. CHAIRPERSON OF THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL AND BOUNDARIES COMMISSION (IEBC) (Ref. SP/IEBC/1/2025) – 1 VACANCY
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to the Commission in executing its constitutional mandate.
- Oversee electoral processes and ensure compliance with constitutional and legal requirements.
- Ensure fair and transparent elections in accordance with electoral laws and regulations.
- Represent the Commission in national and international engagements related to electoral governance.
- Develop and enforce policies that promote electoral integrity, voter education, and inclusivity.
- Liaise with government bodies, political parties, and international stakeholders to uphold electoral standards.
- Oversee financial management and ensure accountability within the Commission.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be qualified to hold the office of a Judge of the Supreme Court, as per Article 166(3) of the Constitution.
- Must have:
- At least 15 years of experience as a superior court judge; OR
- 15 years of experience in academia, law, public administration, or governance.
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.
- Must not have held a political office or been a member of a political party in the last five years.
- Must not hold any State office.
2. MEMBER OF THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL AND BOUNDARIES COMMISSION (IEBC) (Ref. SP/IEBC/2/2025) – 6 VACANCIES
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in policy formulation to guide the electoral process.
- Supervise electoral procedures and ensure compliance with legal frameworks.
- Engage stakeholders in enhancing electoral transparency and credibility.
- Review constituency boundaries as per constitutional guidelines.
- Monitor electoral processes to guarantee free and fair elections.
- Enhance public awareness on electoral and voter registration processes.
- Assist in conflict resolution related to electoral disputes.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- A degree from a recognized university.
- At least 10 years of experience in one or more of the following fields:
- Electoral matters
- Governance & public administration
- Finance & accounting
- Law & legal practice
- Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
- Political science & international relations
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Must not have held a political office or been a member of a political party in the last five years.
- Must not hold any State office.
