Key Responsibilities

As the Regional Legal Counsel, you will oversee legal matters and offer advisory support for the AFRICA region. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide substantive legal advice across a broad range of areas, including HR, logistics, procurement, compliance, and data protection.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents essential for operations.
  • Advise on policies, risk assessments, and governance frameworks to align with institutional goals.

Operational Support:

  • Coordinate legal services across the AFRICA region, ensuring compliance with international and local laws.
  • Represent the ICRC in judicial and administrative proceedings.
  • Liaise with external counsel and manage relationships to achieve favorable outcomes.

Risk and Compliance:

  • Contribute to decision-making processes on compliance, risk management, and information security.
  • Promote organizational change by advising on corporate legal matters.

Regional Focus:

  • Collaborate with regional and country offices to address employment law, diplomatic privileges, and regulatory challenges.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and skills:

Required:

  • Advanced degree in law (Master’s level or higher).
  • 8–10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years as a corporate legal advisor.
  • Expertise in employment law, contract law, and business law.
  • Proven ability to manage legal cases and negotiations in a multinational context.
  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with a valid practicing certificate.

Preferred:

  • Experience in international organizations or NGOs.
  • Knowledge of French as a professional working language.
  • Field experience handling legal issues is a strong asset.
