QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY

To qualify for the Tutorial Fellow – School of Public Health position, applicants must fulfill the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Public Health or a related discipline from a recognized university.

    OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree in exceptional cases, as per the MKU Teaching Staff Appointments and Promotions Guidelines, 2020.
  • Must be registered or registerable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Membership/registration with relevant professional bodies (where applicable) is mandatory.
  • Appointment will be made on a two-year contract, renewable based on progress in PhD studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Tutorial Fellow in the School of Public Health, you will report to the Dean, Public Health, and carry out the following functions:

Teaching and Curriculum Development

  • Develop and review curriculum for undergraduate and diploma-level public health programs.
  • Prepare course outlines that align with university standards and the needs of learners.
  • Develop lecture materials that provide comprehensive and updated content for all taught courses.
  • Teach Certificate, Diploma, and Undergraduate students in scheduled courses.

Student Engagement & Supervision

  • Administer and invigilate examinations, ensuring alignment with academic standards.
  • Mark, grade, and submit student assessment reports in a timely manner.
  • Supervise student projects, attend defense sessions, and guide learners through academic milestones.
  • Assess students during field placements, attachments, and internships.
  • Monitor and enforce class attendance compliance (minimum four-fifths attendance rule).

Research and Scholarly Contribution

  • Conduct original research in relevant public health fields.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences to disseminate knowledge.
  • Attract research funding through proposals and partnerships to support departmental objectives.

Institutional Development and Governance

  • Participate in university meetings, public health faculty committees, and official functions.
  • Support standard operating procedures (SOPs) formulation and continuous academic quality assurance.
  • Execute administrative duties as may be assigned from time to time by the department.
