Introduction

Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is a leading State Corporation dedicated to specialized healthcare, medical research, education, and training. The hospital, in partnership with the University of Manchester and other collaborators, is advancing the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Global Health Research Group for Improving Oesophageal Cancer Survival in Kenya. This initiative utilizes a hub-and-spoke model with KUTRRH as the Hub and five counties—Kisii, Meru, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Nyeri—as the spokes.

As part of this innovative research project, KUTRRH seeks to recruit two Truck Drivers for its Mobile Endoscopy Clinic. These positions are part-time and require individuals committed to excellence, diligence, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the Mobile Endoscopy Clinic truck across the assigned counties (Kisii, Meru, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Nyeri).
  • Ensure the safety and security of the truck and its medical equipment during transit and at designated locations.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in excellent operational condition.
  • Adhere to all traffic and road safety regulations to guarantee the safety of passengers and equipment.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Support the medical team in setting up the Mobile Clinic at various sites.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and truck maintenance schedules.
  • Report any mechanical issues or incidents promptly to the relevant department.
  • Coordinate with the project team to ensure timely and efficient transportation.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and represent KUTRRH positively in all engagements.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • A valid Kenyan driver’s license, Class BCE, with no endorsements.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience driving heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
  • Basic mechanical skills and the ability to perform minor truck repairs.
  • Proven track record of safe driving and compliance with traffic regulations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience driving specialized vehicles, such as mobile medical units.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan road network, especially in the targeted counties.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
  • Commitment to upholding confidentiality and professional ethics.
