INTRODUCTION
The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) is pleased to announce a nationwide recruitment drive for Prison Constables scheduled to take place on April 30, 2025.
This opportunity is open to disciplined, patriotic, and physically fit Kenyan youth who are ready to serve the country in one of its most respected uniformed services.
Successful candidates will undergo rigorous para-military training lasting not less than nine (9) months and will be deployed to correctional facilities across the country upon completion.
ABOUT KENYA PRISONS SERVICE (KPS)
The Kenya Prisons Service is mandated under the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to manage correctional facilities, support inmate rehabilitation, and ensure public safety.
With facilities nationwide, including maximum and medium security prisons, women’s correctional centres, and youth reform institutions, KPS plays a critical role in:

Custody and rehabilitation of offenders

Maintaining law and order within prison establishments
-
Supporting inmate reintegration into society

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF A PRISON CONSTABLE
As a Prison Constable, your responsibilities will include:
-
Supervising and maintaining custody of inmates
-
Ensuring safety, order, and discipline within the prison facility
-
Escorting inmates to court, hospital, or other designated areas securely
-
Supporting rehabilitation programs, including academic, vocational, and spiritual activities
-
Documenting inmate movements, behaviors, and incident reports
-
Assisting in logistics such as food distribution and sanitation
-
Supporting reintegration efforts and community outreach where required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
-
Be a Kenyan citizen with a valid National ID
-
Hold a KCSE mean grade of D+ (Plus) and above
-
Aged between 18 and 28 years
-
Height:
-
Men: At least 5 feet 4 inches
-
Women: At least 5 feet 2 inches
-

Be physically and mentally fit, with no health limitations
-
Possess clear vision and good hearing
-
Have no criminal record or pending court case
-
Female candidates must not be pregnant at recruitment or during training

Venue: Official recruitment centres in each sub-county across Kenya

TRAINING AND DEPLOYMENT
Recruits will undergo at least 9 months of para-military training at the Prisons Staff Training College (PSTC), Ruiru, and other designated centres.
The training covers:

Law enforcement and prison regulations
-
Inmate care and human rights
-
Self-defense and crisis management
-
Firearm handling and security
-
First aid and emergency procedures
Upon graduation, recruits will be posted to various prisons nationwide.
