With over 30 years of experience, TREES has planted over 350 million trees worldwide, empowering communities with knowledge, skills, and resources for sustainable land management.
In Kenya, TREES operates extensively across the Lake Victoria Watershed, with a dedicated team of 160+ staff members collaborating with over 20,000 farmers. Through its Forest Garden Approach, the organization enhances agricultural productivity while integrating carbon financing opportunities via the Lake Victoria Agroforestry Carbon Project in partnership with Catona Climate. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate stakeholder engagements and identify potential areas for project expansion.
- Mobilize and organize farmers into groups, identifying lead farmers for participation in accordance with TREES guidelines.
- Conduct training and capacity-building sessions for farmers to implement agroforestry and climate-smart agriculture practices effectively.
- Sensitize communities about the Lake Victoria Agroforestry Carbon Project, ensuring informed participation through Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) processes.
- Facilitate the signing of carbon contracts between lead farmers and individual participants, ensuring adherence to project standards.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop weekly project work plans and reports.
- Maintain detailed records of tree planting and farm progress using TREES Taroworks App.
- Provide technical backstopping and mentorship to farmers, ensuring successful implementation of Forest Gardens.
- Conduct field monitoring and evaluation (M&E), collecting data for reporting and impact assessment.
- Ensure compliance with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Supervise Assistant Project Officers (APOs) and ensure their effective participation in project implementation.
- Assist in developing locally relevant training materials and best-practice guides for farmers.
- Share insights and lessons learned to contribute to a culture of knowledge-sharing and innovation.
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Forestry, Environmental Science, Agribusiness Management, Natural Resource Management, Agricultural Education, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in forestry, agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, or natural resource management.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and agroforestry principles.
- Ability to train and facilitate learning sessions for farming communities.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to navigate smartphone applications.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English, Swahili, and preferably local languages.
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid motorcycle license with experience riding both on-road and off-road.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent community engagement, project coordination, and data management skills.
- A commitment to learning and implementing best agroforestry practices.
