Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist Role

As the Pharmacist – Machakos, you will oversee and execute critical functions related to medication management, regulatory compliance, and patient safety. Your key duties include:

Medication Preparation and Dispensing:

  • Prepare, dispense, and review prescriptions ensuring accuracy, legality, and compliance with ethical standards.
  • Provide expert guidance to patients and healthcare professionals regarding medication usage.
  • Educate patients on proper dosage, potential side effects, and possible drug interactions.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure the continuous availability of essential medications.
  • Maintain accurate records of all dispensed medications, including controlled substances.

Compliance and Safety Assurance:

  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, healthcare regulations, and national pharmacy guidelines.
  • Participate actively in drug safety programs, including monitoring and reporting adverse drug reactions.
  • Conduct regular reviews to prevent adverse drug interactions based on patient history.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:

  • Work closely with clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize treatment plans.
  • Conduct training sessions for hospital staff on medication safety, proper storage, and dispensing best practices.
  • Participate in hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives to enhance healthcare delivery.

Knowledge Advancement:

  • Stay informed about emerging drugs, new treatment protocols, and advancements in pharmaceutical care.

Qualifications and Skills Required

The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications and skills:

Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm or equivalent) from a recognized institution.

Professional Requirements:

  • Valid pharmacy license and registration with the relevant regulatory authority in Kenya.
  • Proven experience as a pharmacist in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations, hospital protocols, and medication management.
  • Excellent knowledge of drug interactions, contraindications, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively educate patients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
