Key Responsibilities
As the National Professional Officer (Safety and Security), your primary responsibility will be to ensure operational security, personnel safety, and risk management at FAO’s offices in Nairobi, Kenya. You will also support the UNSMS Designated Official for Security while coordinating with the Principal/Chief Security Adviser. Your core duties include:
1. Security & Risk Management:
- Provide expert security advice to the FAO Representative on ensuring personnel, premises, and assets’ safety.
- Implement security risk assessment measures as per the Area Security Plan and Security Risk Management (SRM) protocols.
- Monitor the security landscape in Kenya, analyzing risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with Residential Security Measures (RSM) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in contingency planning, crisis response strategies, and security drills.
2. Emergency Response & Security Training:
- Organize safety and security training for FAO personnel.
- Conduct briefings on convoy movements, evacuations, and emergency procedures.
- Keep security-related documentation up to date and ensure staff awareness.
- Regularly conduct security drills and incident response simulations.
3. Incident Reporting & Compliance:
- Document and report security incidents to the FAO Representative.
- Assist in the security evaluation of FAO premises, identifying vulnerabilities.
- Support procurement and maintenance of security equipment.
- Liaise with UN security teams, law enforcement agencies, and national security bodies.
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum Requirements:
- Nationality: Kenyan Citizen
- Education: Advanced degree in risk management, emergency management, political science, public administration, law enforcement, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum one year of relevant professional experience in risk management, security service, or emergency response.
- Language: Proficient in English (Level C) and local Kenyan languages.

- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure.
