INTRODUCTION

The County Government of Nakuru, through its Public Service Board, is inviting applications from qualified and motivated Kenyan citizens to fill various vacant positions across key departments within the county government.

These roles cut across engineering, water and sewerage services, cooperative audits, public information management, and more. The positions are part of Nakuru County’s broader initiative to strengthen public service delivery, infrastructure management, and community development in one of Kenya’s most progressive devolved units.

The recruitment is in accordance with Article 235 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and Section 59 of the County Governments Act (Cap. 265), which empowers county governments to build and manage a qualified public service workforce.

The following positions are currently open for applications:


Vacancy 1: Assistant Engineer II (Water and Sewerage)

Job Description:
The Assistant Engineer II will be responsible for the design, supervision, and maintenance of water and sewerage infrastructure within Nakuru County.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and designing of water supply and sewerage systems

  • Supervise construction and maintenance of waterworks

  • Conduct inspections, data collection, and performance reporting

  • Collaborate with contractors and technical teams on project execution

  • Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or related field

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)

  • Strong understanding of water supply technologies and environmental safeguards

  • Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, EPANET, etc.)


Vacancy 2: Cooperatives Auditor I

Job Description:
The Cooperatives Auditor I will conduct audits for cooperative societies operating within Nakuru County, ensuring compliance with cooperative principles, financial standards, and statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine books of accounts, cash flows, and financial records of co-operatives

  • Assess internal control systems and recommend improvements

  • Prepare audit reports and financial assessments

  • Monitor implementation of audit recommendations

  • Offer training and advisory support to cooperative officers and management committees

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Cooperative Management, or equivalent

  • CPA II or equivalent accounting certification

  • Knowledge of cooperative laws and SACCO operations

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills


Vacancy 3: Library Assistant II – (2 Positions)

Job Description:
Library Assistants will provide front-line support in managing public library services, cataloging, issuing books, and assisting readers with research and access to information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage circulation of library materials (issue/return)

  • Catalog and shelve books using appropriate systems

  • Support users in using e-resources and digital libraries

  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness in the reading environment

  • Record foot traffic and book loans for reporting purposes

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Library and Information Science or related field

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of library database systems

  • Good communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to support diverse reader populations including children and researchers


Vacancy 4: Senior Principal Superintending Engineer (Director – Water and Sewerage)

Job Description:
This is a leadership role in the Department of Water and Sewerage, responsible for policy implementation, strategic planning, and oversight of all major infrastructure projects in the county.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership on water and sewerage development

  • Coordinate engineering design, budgeting, and performance audits

  • Liaise with national water agencies and development partners

  • Supervise departmental teams including engineers, inspectors, and technicians

  • Advise on regulatory compliance and environmental conservation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Water/Civil Engineering

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer by EBK

  • At least 10 years of experience in water infrastructure management

  • Proven leadership and team coordination experience
