INTRODUCTION

This role offers a unique opportunity to support a leading agroforestry initiative in Kenya, enhancing sustainability and community resilience. As a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Assistant, you will be responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting to improve program efficiency and effectiveness. This position is ideal for individuals with strong technical skills in M&E frameworks, technology integration, and field coordination.

Trees for the Future (TREES) has been a global leader in agroforestry training for over 30 years. Through the Forest Garden Approach, TREES collaborates with farming families to restore degraded land, increase biodiversity, and establish sustainable food systems. The organization operates in Kenya, Mali, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda, planting over 350 million trees to date.
In Kenya, TREES is actively transforming landscapes in the Lake Victoria Watershed Region, working with 20,000+ farmers and a dedicated team of 160+ staff. Partnering with Catona Climate, this initiative is currently undergoing Carbon Market Verification, allowing farmers to benefit from carbon financing while restoring their land.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of agroforestry projects.
- Collaborate with the MEL Coordinator to implement field monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities.
- Conduct data collection and validation from project sites to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Perform data cleaning and processing to ensure high-quality inputs for decision-making.
- Conduct farmer interviews for case studies and impact assessments.
- Participate in project planning meetings, contributing data-driven insights.
- Notify field staff of upcoming data collection activities and ensure smooth execution.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain and manage the project database, ensuring timely updates.
- Provide technical training to field officers on MEL systems and methodologies.
- Supervise data collection efforts including Field Area Measurement, Biodiversity Assessments, and Polygon Mapping.
- Analyze and present data insights to country program teams and MEL leadership.
- Conduct training workshops on emerging M&E tools and best practices for field staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Undergraduate degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of experience in M&E roles within NGOs, UN bodies, or government agencies.
- Strong ICT proficiency, particularly in Android-based tools and web-based data management.
- Expertise in data analysis software and statistical tools.
- Experience in survey design, data collection, and impact reporting.
- Ability to train and mentor field officers on data-driven methodologies.
- Understanding of project impact measurement frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of Swahili or a local language is advantageous.
