The selected candidate will play a crucial role in pharmaceutical supply chain management, clinical pharmacy support, and stock control, ensuring efficient and high-quality healthcare delivery. Since 1996, MSF France has maintained a strong presence in Kenya, particularly in Homabay County, where it supports HBCTRH’s adult medical (in-patient and TB) wards and manages chronic disease activities in decentralized sites. Key Responsibilities
1. Order Management
- Support chronic disease teams in quantification and placement of monthly orders to ensure uninterrupted medical supply.
- Ensure timely processing and delivery of chronic disease clinic orders.
- Report any discrepancies in orders, such as under-supply, over-supply, or incorrect items, to the Pharmacy Activities Manager.
- Maintain and file ordering documents in compliance with MSF protocols.
- Assist in the weekly quantification of medication needs for DSDM (Differentiated Service Delivery Models).
- Provide mentorship and technical support to Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) implementing DSDM models.
- Support the implementation of the sickle cell disease program in collaboration with medical teams.
- Ensure all medical supplies for outreach programs and mobile clinics are promptly ordered and accounted for.
2. Stock Management
- Monitor and report monthly stock status, MOS (Months of Stock), and ruptures to avoid shortages.
- Maintain updated stock records for chronic disease clinics and ensure proper documentation.
- Organize, label, and maintain pharmacy storage according to MSF guidelines.
- Conduct weekly inventory checks and report discrepancies to ensure accountability.
- Implement First Expiry First Out (FEFO) principles to reduce waste.
- Ensure proper disposal of expired or recalled medical supplies.
- Work with MOH (Ministry of Health) facility staff to transition responsibility for chronic disease medication management.
- Support rational medicine use by promoting the utilization of available MOH medical stocks.
3. Data Management
- Ensure daily entry of chronic disease prescriptions into RedCap.
- Conduct weekly commodity data quality checks and report anomalies.
- Assist in analyzing medication consumption trends and provide monthly reports.
- Provide up-to-date MOH stock status reports for chronic disease teams.
4. Clinical Pharmacy Support
- Provide technical medication-related information to chronic disease teams.
- Attend clinical meetings and case discussions, providing pharmacy-related insights.
- Support pharmacovigilance monitoring and report adverse drug reactions.
- Promote rational prescription monitoring and identify medication errors.
- Conduct patient education on medication use, storage, side effects, and adherence.
- Work closely with CHVs, MHPSS (Mental Health & Psychosocial Support), and the Community Engagement Manager to address patient concerns.
5. Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in emergency response activities, including cholera and violence-related interventions.
- Provide coverage for hospital-based pharmacy technicians during leave periods.
- Report any concerns affecting program implementation.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding MSF operations and patient information.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Essential: Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology.
- Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
Experience & Knowledge:
- Essential: Experience working with MOH and private pharmacy systems.
- Essential: Proven experience in training and supervising teams.
- Desirable: Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
Language Skills:
- Fluent in English and Swahili.
