ROLE SUMMARY

As the Head of Sales – Smartphone Financing, you will be responsible for driving overall sales performance, expanding partner networks, and steering strategic growth initiatives. You’ll recruit and manage a national sales team, develop high-impact strategies, track KPIs, and build synergies across product, risk, and customer success teams.

This position reports directly to the Country Head of Device Financing and works closely with the regional leadership team of Eleving Group.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Sales Strategy Development and Execution

  • Develop and implement robust sales strategies and go-to-market plans for smartphone financing
  • Translate revenue targets into regional and branch-level execution plans
  • Drive territory planning, market penetration, and sales playbook refinement
  • Monitor market trends, competitor actions, and client behavior to recalibrate strategy

2. Team Leadership and Performance Management

  • Recruit, train, and lead a high-performing nationwide sales team (sales reps, area leads, and dealer support agents)
  • Set clear KPIs, monitor daily performance, and ensure a high-performance culture
  • Coach and mentor sales team members, fostering ownership, discipline, and continuous development

3. Dealer and Channel Partner Management

  • Build and grow relationships with phone dealers, retailers, distributors, and telco partners
  • Oversee the development of channel partnerships, dealer onboarding, and sales enablement programs
  • Ensure partner SLAs are met and distributor loyalty is cultivated through regular engagement

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product, marketing, operations, credit risk, and customer service teams to ensure smooth end-to-end customer journey
  • Champion sales team needs in interdepartmental forums to improve conversion rates and client satisfaction
  • Collaborate with marketing to deploy targeted campaigns, promotional materials, and field activations

5. Reporting and Sales Analytics

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance across regions and channels
  • Generate dashboards and reports that highlight sales conversion ratios, portfolio growth, NPL trends, and customer retention metrics
  • Present insights and growth projections to senior leadership, recommending data-driven interventions

6. Market Expansion and Innovation

  • Identify new market opportunities, untapped regions, and underserved segments
  • Pilot new outreach models and test different acquisition tactics in collaboration with product teams
  • Suggest pricing strategies, bundling ideas, and value-added services that enhance the customer value proposition

7. Leadership and Culture Building

  • Be a role model for integrity, execution excellence, and collaborative leadership
  • Instill a sales culture grounded in transparency, service orientation, and mission alignment
  • Lead quarterly sales reviews, planning retreats, and performance calibration sessions

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Academic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related discipline
  • An MBA or postgraduate qualification in a business-related field is a significant advantage

Experience Requirements:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in sales leadership, preferably in device financing, telecommunications, FMCG, or financial services
  • Demonstrated success in managing multi-location sales teams and dealer/distributor networks
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a B2C or B2B2C environment

Core Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and performance-tracking capabilities using CRM tools or Excel dashboards
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Deep understanding of Kenyan market dynamics, particularly consumer credit behavior and retail distribution structures
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in fast-paced, results-driven settings
  • Familiarity with smartphone ecosystems, telco channels, and microfinance operations is a plus
