Key Responsibilities:

As the Head of Research, you will:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and implement a research agenda aligned with NAI’s overarching strategy.
    • Ensure the highest standards of research quality and policy relevance.
    • Actively contribute to the institute’s strategic decision-making as part of the Management Group.
  2. Team Management:
    • Lead the research unit and oversee scholarship programs.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation.
    • Promote interdisciplinary and cross-unit collaboration.
  3. Research Impact and Policy Engagement:
    • Drive impactful policy dialogues in the Nordics and Africa.
    • Disseminate research findings to inform policymakers.
    • Enhance the institute’s visibility and demonstrate impact through monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  4. External Collaboration and Fundraising:
    • Cultivate partnerships with academic institutions, governments, and stakeholders.
    • Secure external funding to support research initiatives.
  5. Representation:
    • Represent NAI in national and international forums.
    • Advocate for evidence-based policy development and facilitate knowledge exchange.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • Professor-level expertise in a social sciences discipline.
  • Extensive experience in research leadership and management.
  • Proven track record of publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed research.
  • Strong policy engagement experience.
  • Demonstrated success in securing external research funding.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and mutual respect.

Preferred (Merits):

  • Experience engaging with Nordic decision-makers.
  • Proficiency in additional languages spoken in Nordic or African regions.
