INTRODUCTION

To support this mission, we are seeking a commercially savvy, well-connected, and strategic Head of Partnerships to lead and expand MOGO’s device financing ecosystem through strategic alliances.

You will play a pivotal role in building embedded finance partnerships that make digital access a reality.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Head of Partnerships – Smartphone Financing will lead the development and execution of strategic partnerships that drive growth, distribution, and customer access for MOGO’s device financing portfolio. You will work closely with OEMs, national distributors, large-scale retailers, telco partners, and e-commerce platforms to create win-win partnerships that embed financing into the customer journey.
This role will involve high-level negotiations, relationship management, and cross-functional coordination with sales, product, credit, and tech teams. Your ability to influence the mobile phone ecosystem and forge enduring relationships will determine the success of this vertical.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Partnership Strategy & Relationship Management
- Develop and execute a national partnership strategy for MOGO’s device financing products
- Identify and engage potential partners across OEMs (Samsung, Xiaomi, Tecno, Infinix, etc.), national distributors, telcos, e-commerce channels, and top-tier retail chains
- Manage relationship lifecycles including onboarding, contract negotiation, SLA development, and quarterly business reviews (QBRs)
- Serve as MOGO’s primary liaison with handset ecosystem stakeholders and represent the company at events, conferences, and trade forums
2. Business Development & Expansion
- Identify new channels and territories for smartphone distribution in collaboration with field sales and market intelligence teams
- Source and onboard partners that expand product reach and ensure optimal customer experience
- Work with credit and sales teams to embed financing offers into partner platforms, outlets, and campaigns
- Drive go-to-market strategies with OEMs and retail chains to ensure consistent lead generation and client acquisition
3. Commercial Analysis & Partner Performance Optimization
- Negotiate commercial terms that optimize margins, scale distribution, and lower cost per acquisition (CPA)
- Monitor partner performance through structured metrics such as unit sales, activation rates, NPLs, and client satisfaction
- Resolve escalations or SLA breaches in collaboration with internal departments
- Align product, pricing, and promotional strategies with partner objectives and customer insights
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with product teams to align financing structure with device price points and partner bundles
- Collaborate with the risk, credit scoring, and tech integration teams to deliver a seamless, API-enabled onboarding experience for partners
- Support the customer service and collections departments in understanding partner expectations, promotional terms, and warranty procedures
5. Market Intelligence & Strategic Influence
- Keep abreast of market trends in device pricing, competition, product demand, and mobile usage patterns
- Provide feedback to senior leadership to support long-term product strategy and policy advocacy
- Inform product development through data-driven recommendations from the partnership ecosystem
6. Ecosystem Thought Leadership
- Champion MOGO’s value proposition in external forums, webinars, and advocacy platforms
- Represent the company in national conversations around digital inclusion, embedded finance, and smartphone accessibility
- Build brand credibility by driving partnerships that align with MOGO’s mission of upward social mobility
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field
- 5–8 years of experience in partnerships, business development, or key account management within the mobile device industry
- Proven background working with or for mobile phone OEMs (e.g., Tecno, Infinix, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo), national distributors (e.g., Mobicom, Elite Digital), or large-scale retailers (e.g., Carrefour, Jumia, Safaricom dealers)
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Deep understanding of the phone supply chain and distribution dynamics in Kenya
Desirable Additions:
- MBA or professional qualification in strategic management, commercial leadership, or marketing
- Knowledge of mobile money, embedded finance, and customer financing models
- Experience working in or with fintechs or telcos on device bundling initiatives
