Key Responsibilities
- Conduct On-Farm Participatory Research: Lead and facilitate participatory research activities with farmers to promote best practices in agroforestry, afforestation, and sustainable land use.
- Implement and Oversee Afforestation Projects: Manage the planning, execution, and monitoring of afforestation projects, ensuring effective collaboration with Community Forest Associations (CFAs) and stakeholders.
- Provide Training to Community and Field Workers: Design and deliver comprehensive training programs aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of community members and field workers involved in forestry projects.
- Act as an Honorary Warden under KFS: Collaborate with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) as an honorary warden to ensure compliance with national forestry regulations and standards.
- Promote Youth and Women Empowerment Approaches: Advocate for inclusive participation of youth and women in forestry activities, supporting their involvement in decision-making processes and economic empowerment initiatives.
- Facilitate Community Engagement: Work closely with local communities to build trust, raise awareness, and foster a shared sense of responsibility towards forest conservation and natural resource management.
- Ensure Accurate Documentation: Maintain detailed records of project activities, research findings, training sessions, and community engagements, providing timely reports to Akili Group management.
- Support Afforestation Policy Development: Contribute insights and recommendations towards the development and implementation of policies promoting sustainable forestry practices.
- Liaise with Relevant Stakeholders: Coordinate with governmental agencies, NGOs, donor organizations, and private sector partners to enhance project delivery and resource mobilization.
- Leverage Technology and Tools: Utilize MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for project documentation, reporting, and communication.
Qualifications and Skills
- Educational Background: Undergraduate degree in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or a closely related field.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in Kiswahili, English, and Luo is mandatory to facilitate effective communication with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Recognition: Must be an honorary warden under Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of practical experience working with Community Forest Associations (CFAs).
- Proven track record in implementing, managing, or overseeing afforestation projects.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting or facilitating on-farm participatory research.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of agroforestry principles, sustainable forestry practices, and environmental conservation strategies.
- Familiarity with policy frameworks governing forestry in Kenya.
- Community Engagement Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with community members, CFAs, and other stakeholders.
- Experience in youth and women empowerment programs.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for preparing reports, presentations, and data analysis.
- Additional Attributes:
