ROLE SUMMARY

Baran Telecom Networks Kenya Ltd is seeking a highly experienced Finance Officer to lead its finance department in Nairobi. The Finance Officer will oversee all aspects of the finance function, including financial controls, reporting, budgeting, compliance, and cash flow management. The role demands a strong analytical mindset, sound financial judgment, and leadership capabilities to support strategic and operational decision-making within the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Accounting, Financial Systems, and Controls

• Oversee all financial operations, ensuring compliance with internal policies, statutory regulations, and accepted accounting standards.
• Develop, update, and implement accounting policies and procedures for accuracy and accountability.
• Maintain up-to-date accounting records and effective internal control systems.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with tax, audit, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate and prepare external audit documentation and manage financial reporting processes.

B. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

• Supervise the organization’s cash flow, ensuring effective liquidity management and financial stability.
• Forecast cash requirements and manage short- and long-term funding strategies.
• Oversee insurance renewals and ensure adequate cover for company assets.
• Optimize resource utilization to maximize operational efficiency and minimize financial risk.

C. Management Reporting & Analysis

• Generate accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial management reports for internal use.
• Analyze variances and trends in financial performance and recommend corrective action plans.
• Provide detailed financial insights and projections to aid strategic planning.

D. Budgeting and Forecasting

• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
• Monitor budget implementation and provide regular variance analysis reports.
• Develop and implement financial models for project evaluation and investment feasibility studies.

E. Leadership and Team Management

• Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to the finance team.
• Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and performance within the department.
• Coach and mentor junior finance staff to build internal capabilities.
• Participate actively in executive meetings, offering financial guidance and strategic input.

F. Funding, Financing & Investment Oversight

• Identify and secure external funding sources to support company growth.
• Maintain effective relationships with banks, investors, and financial institutions.
• Support investment decision-making processes including ROI analysis and capital allocation.

G. Tax Planning and Compliance

• Ensure timely submission of tax returns and adherence to KRA regulations.
• Optimize the company’s tax exposure through efficient tax planning.
• Manage tax audits and liaise with external consultants as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field from a recognized university (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
• CPA-K certification and active ICPAK membership.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive financial management experience within the IT, Telecom, or Engineering sectors.
• Proven experience in budget formulation, financial reporting, resource mobilization, and tax compliance.
• Proficiency in ERP and accounting software systems.
• Strong command of Trial Balance preparation, financial consolidation, daily reporting, and account reconciliations.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
