Key Responsibilities of the Finance Officer Role

As the Finance Officer (Accounting), you will play a crucial role in supporting the finance team across multiple African countries, ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulatory standards. Your primary duties will include:

Accounting and Bookkeeping:

  • Document financial transactions in accordance with GD’s global bookkeeping standards using the organization’s accounting software.
  • Reconcile bank statements accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with monthly and periodic close tasks as assigned.

Financial Compliance and Reporting:

  • Participate in financial audits and special donor or regulatory reports (immigration, NGO regulators, etc.).
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports, identifying variances and recommending solutions.
  • Implement compliance requirements from tax regulators and donors.

Procurement and Payment Protocols:

  • Ensure proper documentation and adherence to procurement and payment protocols.
  • Monitor asset management protocols, including asset verification and reconciliations.

Budget and Cash Flow Management:

  • Assist in budget preparation, management, and financial forecasting.
  • Ensure accurate implementation of financial controls and procedures to prevent discrepancies.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent practical experience.

Professional Certifications:

  • Professional qualifications such as CPA or ACCA will be an added advantage.

Professional Experience:

  • Previous experience in accounting or finance will be an added advantage.

Technical Competencies:

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel is required.
  • Competence in using accounting software and financial reporting systems.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing environments.

Compensation and Benefits
