INTRODUCTION

Trees for the Future (TREES) is searching for a dedicated and strategic Field Operations Senior Manager to lead the implementation of agroforestry initiatives that transform landscapes and improve livelihoods in Kenya’s Lake Victoria Watershed. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive environmental restoration, support sustainable farming, and contribute to carbon financing projects that empower local communities. The successful candidate will manage large-scale field operations, ensuring project efficiency, compliance, and impact. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Implementation and Management

  • Oversee the execution of TREES’ Forest Garden Approach across Kenya’s Lake Victoria Watershed.
  • Manage all field programs, ensuring project timelines, scope, and budgets align with organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to expand the impact of agroforestry initiatives.
  • Conduct site visits to assess program effectiveness, identify challenges, and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, and partner organizations, to ensure program sustainability.
  • Report regularly to the Director of Field Programs, providing performance updates and actionable insights.

Budgeting, Procurement, and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage country-level budgets, optimizing resource allocation for program success.
  • Coordinate procurement processes with the finance team to ensure timely acquisition of necessary tools, seeds, and supplies.
  • Monitor resource utilization, ensuring cost-effectiveness and accountability in all project expenditures.

Training, Technical Support, and Capacity Building

  • Work closely with the Training Department to enhance staff capacity, establish agroforestry training centers, and improve the quality of technical training.
  • Supervise seed bank operations to guarantee high-quality tree seed collection, germination, and distribution.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship to technical teams, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver training and support to farmers.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)

  • Develop monitoring frameworks in collaboration with the MEL Coordinator and Director of Field Programs.
  • Oversee data collection and ensure the integrity of reports submitted to TREES’ headquarters.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to enhance program effectiveness and measure long-term impact.

Partnerships and External Relations

  • Foster positive relationships with government offices, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector partners.
  • Represent TREES in conferences, consortiums, and stakeholder meetings, advocating for sustainable agroforestry solutions.

Staff Supervision and Team Management

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of technical staff, ensuring alignment with TREES’ mission and values.
  • Collaborate with the HR team to recruit, train, and retain top talent in agroforestry and climate resilience sectors.
  • Promote a positive work environment that fosters professional growth and inclusivity.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in agroforestry, environmental conservation, or community-based development programs.
  • Proven track record in managing large teams, project budgets, and multi-regional initiatives.
  • Strong technical knowledge in agroforestry, climate resilience, and carbon offset projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation, data-driven decision-making, and impact assessment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English and Swahili; proficiency in local languages is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
