KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Fiber and Wireless Technician Intern, you will be entrusted with hands-on tasks across installation, maintenance, repair, and customer support functions. Under the supervision of senior technicians and engineers, your daily responsibilities will include:

1. Installation Tasks

  • Install fiber optic cables, network cabinets, and wireless systems in commercial, industrial, and residential settings
  • Set up Wi-Fi routers, antennas, access points, and signal amplifiers
  • Install CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and configure settings to optimize network strength
  • Perform end-to-end testing to verify functionality, signal strength, and installation standards compliance

2. Maintenance Duties

  • Conduct routine inspections on cables, splices, connectors, and wireless hardware
  • Clean and service fiber junctions and wireless equipment to ensure signal clarity and avoid performance degradation
  • Perform preventive maintenance to reduce system downtime

3. Troubleshooting and Repairs

  • Use signal testing devices and diagnostic tools to isolate faults in fiber or wireless networks
  • Repair or replace damaged cables, splitters, ONTs, and wireless access points
  • Troubleshoot issues such as packet loss, poor signal reception, or dropped connections

4. Network Monitoring

  • Utilize network monitoring software and test equipment to analyze performance metrics and identify anomalies
  • Report outages or abnormal activity and assist in incident response
  • Help configure alerts and alarms for early fault detection

5. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain logs of daily tasks, testing results, installations, and corrective actions
  • Create diagrams or schematics to document installed networks and fiber layouts
  • File technical reports for system upgrades or replacements

6. Customer Service & Communication

  • Interface with clients to explain network setups, troubleshoot issues, and demonstrate system use
  • Provide courteous and prompt service while on-site
  • Translate complex technical concepts into layman’s terms for non-technical clients

7. Safety and Compliance

  • Follow industry safety protocols when climbing masts, using ladders, or working with electrical equipment
  • Ensure compliance with telecommunications regulations, safety codes, and best practices
